Enjoyed this traditional Teochew braised duck platter for 4 (大四喜) from @aiyabraisedduck which comprises of half a duck, duck wings, pork belly, braised peanuts, braised beancurd and eggs. These are made by the founder and chef Aunty Kuah who has more than 30 years of cooking experience with Teochew braised duck.

The braised sauce is slightly sweet and the duck is deboned, making it very convenient to eat. The braised flavor of the beancurd and egg was mild but not for the duck which went so well with the yam rice. Yes, don’t forget to order the yam rice because it is very flavorful and shiok.

Soon Kee Boneless Duck Rice at the defunct Longhouse Hawker Centre in Thomson has been my family’s favourite for many years.

After the place was demolished, one of the brothers, Ong Soon Hwa, opened a stall in Ang Mo Kio while the other opened a stall in Balestier Market. I often visit their stall in Ang Mo Kio to satisfy my duck rice cravings.

The duck was nicely tender and juicy, with no hint of gaminess. The unquestionably delicious yam rice, which is cooked with braising sauce, deserves a special mention. Oh yes, on rainy days, I love to order their comforting duck porridge too!
