If you ever find yourself out this way, specifically near Chaochoengsao, a village which straddles Bangkok's East border, you'll be about to easily spot this rather exceptional piece of Bamboo architecture and friendly family restaurant. @bambooyai
The massive roof is designed to emulate a capsized boat and entirely made of bamboo, the restaurant is completely open - air with large tables and also bamboo "birdcage" pod seating.
We attempted to sit in one but we're quickly informed by staff it was already booked. Not surprisingly, as the restaurant on a Saturday lunch was packed with Bangkok day trippers. We particularly appreciated the detail that went into its design, like the immense and beautiful bamboo Siamases fighting fish raised overhead.
The menu is extensive and they seem to have something for everyone. Spicy salad to steak salads, we opted for the spicy selection. Starting with the yellow seafood curry cooked in coconut, the fried Sator and mince and the Crispy seafood salad with 3 flavours "Sarm rot". Lastly if the waitress asked if you want dessert say 'yes' to their homemade signature coconut cake!
Everything was fresh, generous in portion and highly satisfactory in taste. A surprising gastronomical roadside stop under a very cool Thai-made structure.
