│密談合作多時的 Comcast 確定將和 ViacomCBS 聯手在歐洲市場推出新串流品牌│
• 眉來眼去一兩個月的兩個好萊塢媒體集團 NBCUniversal 的母公司 Comcast 以及 Paramount 的母公司 ViacomCBS，今天終於宣佈他們確定將合作的項目：不是先前謠傳的合併兩家公司，也不算是將各自的串流旗艦品牌 Peacock 和 Paramount+ 合併成一家，而是雙方將在歐洲市場聯手推出一個新的串流品牌，以便與目前稱霸歐洲市場的 Netflix 和 Disney+ 在同一個量級上爭霸。有趣的是這個新品牌名稱沒有 Peacock 也沒有 Paramount 這些字眼，而是選擇用 Comcast 旗下既有的歐洲衛星電視品牌 Sky 和 ViacomCBS 旗下的美國電視網 Showtime，組合成新的名稱—— SkyShowtime。
• 這樁合作密約最早爆開是大約一個月前華爾街日報獨家報導 Comcast 執行長 Brian Roberts 和 ViacomCBS 董事長 Shari Redstone 六月底在紐約的秘密約會。外界猜測兩人除了針對各自家裡的串流服務遠遠落後對手的慘狀（Peacock只有4200 萬用戶而 Paramount+只有3600萬用戶的）互相取暖之外，很可能談及了雙方在串流業務甚至整個媒體集團上的合作。
• 其實就在密會發生的差不多時間前後，華爾街日報就引用消息人士的話指出擁有 NBCUniversal 的電信業者 Comcast 有意透過併購機上盒業者 Roku 或是與競爭對手 ViacomCBS 合作甚至合併，來擴大自己在串流大戰中的量體規模。當時報導稱更早之前 Comcast 和 ViaccomCBS 曾密切就交往可能性談過一陣子，但後來 ViacomCBS 推出自家的 Paramount+ 服務之後就失聯了。
• 媒體原本猜測 Comcast 和 ViccomCBS 眼前能在串流大戰中做出的最激烈手段不外乎合併兩家的串流服務，或是像 WarnerMedia 和 Discovery 那樣索性合併兩家公司。後面這個選項鑒於今年以來美國新政府對於反壟斷政策的標準緊縮而變得不切實際。兩週前 Hollywood Reporter 則掌握到了接近局部正解的內部消息，指出 Paramount+ 將藉助 Comcast 簽下歐洲的電視服務 Sky 的幫忙開始進入歐洲市場。今天揭露的方案中的合作深度遠比兩週前的報導還要深入許多，因為最終這個新平台 SkyShowtime 上將囊括兩個集團內包含 Showtime、Nickelodeon、Paramount Pictures, Paramount+ Originals、Sky Studios、Universal Pictures 以及 Peacock 等多個內容部門的影視節目。等於是兩個集團跳過了美國市場和美國政府的監理，手牽手跑去歐洲變身成一輛巨大的串流坦克，開始砲攻歐洲市場。
• 過去的好萊塢電影藉由授權或是在地分公司發行的方式征服全球市場。但經營一個跨國界的串流服務要面對的市場和法規更加破碎，甚至還有各種外國人一時半刻難以全盤掌握的道德地雷區不停引爆爭議。比其他平台早了好幾年布局全球市場的 Netflix 因此站在一個其他競爭對手短時間內難以超越的制高點，得以在沒有競爭對手的情況下侵吞蠶食各國市場好幾年。其他好萊塢的串流服務除了 Disney+ 正在努力追趕之外，其他家都以舉步維艱的速度掙扎著前進。反應在數據上，如今 Netflix 的用戶成長力道就完全來自國際市場，也使他們將節目的製作中心迅速從美國中心化轉向各國在地製作遍地開花。在美國串流市場吃鱉的 Comcast 和 ViaomCBS 宣佈聯手經營歐洲串流 SkyShowtime，也等於抄了 Netflix 的決戰海外策略。反正國內一時半刻追不上，不如先去別的沙坑打有勝算的仗。
