รู้จัก Foxconn บริษัทที่จับมือกับ ปตท. ผลิตรถยนต์ไฟฟ้า /โดย ลงทุนแมน
เดือนที่ผ่านมา มีข่าวใหญ่ในวงการยานยนต์ไฟฟ้าในไทย
เมื่อ ปตท. ได้ประกาศร่วมลงทุนกับบริษัท Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd.
หรือที่เรารู้จักกันในนาม Foxconn Technology Group
ในการร่วมมือกันครั้งนี้ เป็นการช่วยกันผลักดันแพลตฟอร์มที่ชื่อว่า MIH
ที่คาดว่าจะมาเป็นอนาคตของการสร้างยานยนต์ไฟฟ้า ทั้งในไทยและทั่วโลก
แล้วแพลตฟอร์ม MIH ที่ว่านี้ คืออะไร และน่าสนใจอย่างไร ?

Foxconn มีชื่อเสียงในฐานะ ผู้นำการผลิต
และประกอบชิ้นส่วนสินค้าอิเล็กทรอนิกส์รายใหญ่ที่สุดของโลก
ที่มีลูกค้ารายสำคัญ เช่น Apple, PlayStation, Nintendo, Huawei และ Xiaomi
เมื่อหลายคนได้ยินว่า Foxconn จะรุกตลาดยานยนต์ไฟฟ้า
หลายคนคงเริ่มตั้งคำถาม ว่าจากบริษัทรับประกอบชิ้นส่วนอุปกรณ์อิเล็กทรอนิกส์ จะมีส่วนสำคัญในการพัฒนาอุตสาหกรรมยานยนต์ไฟฟ้าได้อย่างไร
นี่คือสิ่งหนึ่งที่นักลงทุนทั่วทุกมุมโลก ตั้งคำถามกับ Young Liu ผู้ที่เป็นซีอีโอ และประธานเจ้าหน้าที่บริหารของ Foxconn Group
ซึ่ง Young Liu ตอบคำถามนี้ด้วยการเปิดตัว
แพลตฟอร์มสำหรับการผลิตรถยนต์ไฟฟ้า “MIH”
ในเดือนตุลาคม ปี 2020 ที่ผ่านมา
โดยเขาแถลงวิสัยทัศน์ในวันเปิดตัว MIH ว่า
“การดำเนินกิจการรับจ้างผลิตอุปกรณ์อิเล็กทรอนิกส์ มากว่า 40 ปีของบริษัทนั้น ถึงเวลาแล้วที่จะต้องปรับแนวทางการดำเนินธุรกิจ แม้ว่าศักยภาพในการรับจ้างผลิตจะมีการพัฒนาปรับปรุงให้ทันสมัยตลอดเวลา แต่เราเริ่มสร้างการเติบโตได้ยากขึ้นทุกที”
ในอุตสาหกรรมผลิตชิ้นส่วน จะต้องผลิตในปริมาณมาก และลดต้นทุนในการผลิตลงให้ได้มากด้วย ถึงจะสามารถทำกำไรได้ในระดับที่น่าพอใจ
ยกตัวอย่างเมื่อ 20 ปีที่แล้ว Foxconn รับจ้างผลิตโน้ตบุ๊กให้แบรนด์ Compaq และ Dell ซึ่งในช่วงแรกบริษัทก็ทำกำไรจากการรับจ้างผลิตได้ดี
แต่เมื่อตลาดของสินค้าเหล่านั้น เริ่มมีคู่แข่งเข้ามามาก
และเกิดการแข่งขันกันในเรื่องราคา จนแบรนด์ต้องมาต่อรองกับ Foxconn เพื่อลดต้นทุนในการผลิต
ก็ทำให้อัตรากำไรของ Foxconn ค่อย ๆ ลดลง
Foxconn จึงเริ่มมองหาอะไรใหม่ ๆ มาต่อยอดธุรกิจเดิม
และก็ได้มองเห็นว่า ผู้ครอบครองระบบปฏิบัติการ iOS อย่าง Apple
และระบบ Android อย่าง Google มีโมเดลที่น่าสนใจ
โดยเฉพาะระบบ Android ที่เป็นระบบแบบเปิดทำให้มือถือหลากหลายยี่ห้อสามารถเข้าถึงและนำไปพัฒนาได้ง่าย
และนี่ก็คือแนวคิด ที่ Foxconn กำลังนำมาพัฒนาเป็น MIH ที่จะทำหน้าที่เป็น
“แพลตฟอร์มที่รวบรวมผู้ผลิตชิ้นส่วนอิเล็กทรอนิกส์ และซอฟต์แวร์สำหรับยานยนต์ไฟฟ้าทั่วโลก”
สำหรับให้ผู้พัฒนา เข้ามาใช้เป็นศูนย์กลางในการออกแบบยานยนต์ไฟฟ้าของตัวเอง
โดยที่มาของคำว่า MIH มาจากคำว่า “Made in Hon Hai”
หมายถึงผลิตจากบริษัทหงไห่ หรืออีกชื่อเรียกของ Foxconn
ที่ปัจจุบันมีบริษัทในเครืออยู่ในตลาดหลักทรัพย์ทั้งในไต้หวัน ฮ่องกง จีน เยอรมนี และสหรัฐอเมริกา
และมีโรงงานตั้งอยู่ใน 11 ประเทศทั่วโลก ครอบคลุมทั้งทวีปเอเชีย ยุโรป และอเมริกา
ตอนนี้ แพลตฟอร์ม MIH มีบริษัทประกาศเข้าร่วมแล้วกว่า 1,700 แห่ง
เป็นบริษัทที่อยู่ในอุตสาหกรรมผลิตชิ้นส่วนรถยนต์ 67% และเป็นบริษัทที่อยู่ในอุตสาหกรรมผลิตเครื่องมือสื่อสารและอุตสาหกรรม Internet Software 25%
แพลตฟอร์ม MIH ยังได้สองผู้บริหารคนสำคัญ
คนแรกคือ Jack Cheng ในตำแหน่ง CEO ของแพลตฟอร์ม MIH ผู้ที่มีประสบการณ์ทำงานในอุตสาหกรรมรถยนต์ กว่า 40 ปี เคยทำงานให้กับ Ford, Fiat
และเป็นหนึ่งในผู้ร่วมปลุกปั้น NIO บริษัทรถยนต์ไฟฟ้าชั้นนำของจีน
ผู้บริหารคนที่สอง คือ William Wai
ที่ดูแลรับผิดชอบในส่วนการพัฒนาซอฟต์แวร์ของแพลตฟอร์ม MIH
William Wai มีประสบการณ์ในอุตสาหกรรมซอฟต์แวร์ มากว่า 20 ปี
เขาเคยร่วมงานกับสตีฟ จอบส์ ที่บริษัท NeXT, Inc.
และเคยเป็นหนึ่งในทีมงานที่ร่วมพัฒนาระบบปฏิบัติการ iOS และ macOS
นอกจากผู้บริหารที่มีศักยภาพแล้ว
บริษัทที่เข้าร่วมแพลตฟอร์ม MIH ก็มีหลายบริษัทที่น่าสนใจ
เช่น
- Innolux บริษัทผู้ผลิตจอแสดงผลรถยนต์ไฟฟ้ารุ่น Model X และ S ของ Tesla
- Foxconn Tech ในเครือ Foxconn Technology Group ที่ผลิตอุปกรณ์อิเล็กทรอนิกส์โดยอาศัยเทคโนโลยีการหล่อฉีดอะลูมิเนียมอัลลอย ที่ทำให้ตัวรถยนต์แข็งแกร่งแต่มีน้ำหนักเบา ซึ่งปัจจุบันได้รับคำสั่งซื้อจาก BMW ในการผลิตตัวถังรถยนต์ไฟฟ้า
อีกสิ่งที่เป็นเหมือน “หัวใจ” ของรถยนต์ไฟฟ้าก็คือ “แบตเตอรี่”
ซึ่งในรายชื่อบริษัทพันธมิตรของแพลตฟอร์ม MIH
มีชื่อของ “CATL” หนึ่งในผู้ผลิตแบตเตอรี่รถยนต์ไฟฟ้าให้ Tesla และครองส่วนแบ่งในตลาดกว่า 24% ของแบตเตอรี่รถยนต์ไฟฟ้าในปัจจุบัน
นอกจากบริษัทผลิตชิ้นส่วนหลักในตัวรถยนต์ไฟฟ้าที่เข้าร่วมในแพลตฟอร์มนี้แล้ว
ก็ยังมีบริษัทในอุตสาหกรรมผลิตชิป อย่าง TSMC, MediaTek, ARM หรือบริษัทที่กำลังพัฒนาระบบขับเคลื่อนอัตโนมัติอย่าง AWS (Amazon Web Services) และ Tier IV จากญี่ปุ่นเข้าร่วมด้วย
แพลตฟอร์ม MIH ตั้งเป้าหมายแรก คือต้องการมีสัดส่วน 10% ในตลาดของผู้ผลิตรถยนต์ไฟฟ้าทั่วโลก ภายในปี 2025 และภายในสิ้นปี 2021 มีแผนจะผลิตรถบัสไฟฟ้าออกสู่ตลาด
ย้อนกลับมาที่การจับมือกันระหว่าง Foxconn Technology Group และ ปตท.
เพื่อร่วมเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของแพลตฟอร์ม MIH ในครั้งนี้
ก็คงเหมือนเป็นการเปิดประตูสู่การส่งเสริมการผลิตรถยนต์ไฟฟ้าในไทยให้กว้างขึ้น
จากนี้ก็ต้องติดตามต่อไปว่า อุตสาหกรรมผลิตยานยนต์ของไทย
จะสามารถปรับตัวเข้าสู่อุตสาหกรรมยานยนต์ไฟฟ้าได้มากน้อยแค่ไหน..

Dr. Soo is a law graduate from the University of Reading (UK), a MBA holder from the University of Sunshine Coast (Australia), and a PhD recipient in Business Administration from Open University Malaysia. Her other achievements and prestige awards highlights include Top 10 Most Outstanding Young Malaysian Ambassador (2020), Japan Tourism Board Ambassador (2017), Top 10 Most Outstanding Young Malaysian (2016), being invited for various intellectual variety shows in China as well as being selected as Cabloc, SK-II, Carnation, XES, Avon and Samsung brand ambassador. Besides, Dr. Soo holds 3 Malaysia Book of Records; became the first Miss World Malaysia to be awarded a PhD in 2016, and following that, she was crowned with two more titles - for the most number of academic degrees obtained by a beauty queen and a recording artist. In addition, Dr. Soo has been invited as a speaker for various events and conferences throughout the years.
