Father’s Day this year is extra special because Mr Dad’s birthday falls on the same date: Sunday 17th June 2018! Plus, we got to spend it with the whole family during the Eid season! But, we decided to surprise him a day earlier, on Saturday. Oh boy, you should have seen his face! He was truly surprised!
.
Those of you who know Mr Dad well will know that he is a very simple man and doesn’t really like grand celebrations. He doesn’t like to be the centre of attention. So ‘simple’ is exactly what we did! Masi Udi baked a chocolate marble cake with chocolate cupcakes and fresh strawberries on the side.
.
As usual, I made him a card. Yes, a handmade card! It has always been in our family tradition. We prefer to make our own unique cards. As far as I can remember, Mrs Mom has always taught us to make our own handmade cards for every occasion. According to her, the thought behind a handmade card carries much more value than an expensive shop-bought card!
.
To make it more special, Dadijee made her famous Thai Boat Noodles and also a traditional Thai snack - Miang Kham! And on Sunday, we had a special joint Father’s Day-Birthday barbecue in Mr Dad’s honour, which was just his kind of thing!
.
Honestly, Mr Dad was a bit disappointed in himself that he wasn’t able to anticipate the surprise. He’s really well known for his ‘birthday sixth sense’ and hasn’t failed to predict a surprise yet! Don’t worry, Mr Dad! You’re still a superhero in our eyes!
