I launched a Hari Raya cookbook during the Ang Mo Kio virtual Hari Raya celebration last Friday. It includes 21 recipes contributed by AMK residents (go.gov.sg/9f0s69).
The graphics in the book were designed by three Institute of Technical Education, Singapore visual communication students. With a mix of remote learning and physical time in school, they learnt how to use the software and created the graphics in just three days!
Home-based learning has become a necessary part of school during COVID-19. With the cooperation of students, teachers and parents, this can be productive and fruitful.

Happy Dragon Boat Festival! 端午節快樂!! Or may I say, Happy Dumpling Day cos I care a lot about the great food 🤤 that comes with the festivities.
I grew up eating the best homemade glutinous rice dumplings (or more affectionately known as Ba Zhang and Ki Zhang in Hokkien) made by my grandma, godma and mummy dearest.
Almost 5 years in Hong Kong and this is my first time having a homemade Nyonya Dumpling here. So this is really close to my heart.
While there is a variety of glutinous rice dumplings from different Chinese regions and sub-ethnic groups, they are all distinctively shaped like a pyramid.
Nyonya Dumpling originated from the Perankans whose cooking style is a mix of both traditional Chinese with localised Malay influences in Singapore. 💙 The famous blue tip is a natural colouring extracted from blue pea flowers.
Making of this rice dumpling is extremely tedious. I'll leave that to another time.
Meanwhile, I'm going to enjoy this savoury glutinous rice dumpling filled with delicious pork belly, pork fat, lard, and everything wonderful.

Firm jelly inside, crunchy shell outside. Kohakutou is a traditional Japanese confection (Wagashi).
You just need only 4 ingredients! You can use your favorite colors to make your own favorite gemstones. Easy yet Fun! It is one of summer vacation free research project ideas in Japan 💎
It takes about a week to dry to create the crunchy shell. At this point, the sweetness becomes very mild and delicious 😋
You can use fruit juice if you want to make it in a different flavor! Have fun 👍

4-Ingredient Edible Gemstones (Kohakutou Crystal Gummy Candies)
Difficulty: Easy
Time: 1 week
Number of servings: candies on 1 baking sheet
Ingredients:
300g (10.6oz.) granulated sugar
4g (2 tsp.) Kanten powder (agar-agar powder)
your favorite food colorings
200ml water
Directions:
1. Dilute your favorite food colorings with water.
2. Mix water and Kanten powder (agar-agar powder) very well in a pot. Put on medium. When the agar-agar powder melts, add granulated sugar and turn down to low. Simmer for 10 minutes until it bubbles and the liquid hangs down when you lift the spatula.
3. Pour it into any heat resistant container is okay. Color it in the way you like. Put it in the fridge for an hour to harden.
4. Tear it by hand, place the candy pieces on a parchment paper and let dry for a week until they develop white and crunchy outer shells.
*You can store the candies in an airtight container at room temperature for 2-3 weeks.

Tamagoyaki is Japanese rolled omelette. In this recipe I will share with you how to make it using a microwave. In this way you can make nice and yellow Tamagoyaki without burning it.

Tamagoyaki Sandwich (Japanese Egg Omelette Sando) Recipe
Difficulty: Easy
Time: 30min
Number of servings: 2 servings
Ingredients:
4 eggs
1 tbsp. soy sauce
1/2 tsp. Dashi powder https://amzn.to/3ni6zhD
2 tbsp. water
2 slices of bread
1 tbsp. mayonnaise
1 tsp. Karashi mustard if you like
Directions:
1. Put eggs, soy sauce, Dashi powder, and water in a bowl and mix well. Strain to make it smooth and look beautiful.
2. Place the egg mixture in a square microwavable container. Lightly cover with plastic wrap and microwave on medium (500w) for 2 minutes. Mix, cover again with plastic wrap, and microwave on medium (500w) for another 2 minutes.
3. When it is warm enough to handle, remove from the container and wrap with plastic wrap to shape it nice and square, then cool completely.
4. Remove the crusts. Apply some mayonnaise (and mustard if you like). Place Tamagoyaki between 2 slices of bread. Cut to serve.
