Topic : Teenage pregnancies in the rise: Are we all to blame? What can society do to combat this?*
A number of alarming statistics regarding baby dumping and teenage pregnancy in Malaysia was revealed by Deputy Minister of Women Family and Community Development, YB Hannah Yeoh recently. Around 4,000 teenage girls under the age of 18 were reported pregnant annually based on the Health Ministry’s statistics. Additionally, 79,302 pregnancies among girls under 18 were reported from 2012 to 2016.
As a society who really likes to take extreme interest in our neighbours affairs, what are we doing to combat this?
FEMXTALK was founded with the ambitious goal to bring the society's attention to sensitive, powerful, inspiring or even controversial topics such as this. For our January issue, our panels will be discussing Teenage Pregnancies and whether or not we are all to blame.
As always, we aim to dive deep into our panelists' thoughts on this pressing issue. And as how we imagined FEMxTalk to be, a platform where candid, honest and straightforward discussions take place, this issue will do just that.
1. Sex education helps reduce teenage pregnancies. Myth or fact?
2. Existing initiatives to combat teenage pregnancies from NGOs, private and government sector
3. The impact of society support
4. The alarming statistics and data on teenage pregnancies, baby dumping and our call to action
Do you want to do something about this alarming situation? It won't be easy definitely but maybe you can start by participating in the discussions.
