Enjoyed this short video on a fascinating artifact called the Antikythera Mechanism. Nowadays we think of a computer as something with a silicon chip inside. But this was a mechanical computer, made by the ancient Greeks. It had intricate precision gears, like a fancy Swiss watch, but is more than 2,000 years old!
The device was discovered in an ancient shipwreck off Antikythera Island in 1901 (hence the name). But only fairly recently could scientists look inside the device, using advanced 3D x-ray and modelling technology. They were astonished to find the device did astronomical calculations, to track the movements of the sun, moon and (maybe) planets, and even predict eclipses!
Today, anyone can download smartphone apps that accurately track galaxies, stars, planets, asteroids and more. But nobody imagined the ancient Greeks had the technology and engineering to conceive and create such a sophisticated device!
We are not cleverer than previous generations, but stand on their shoulders. We too should aspire to create and leave something for future generations to marvel at. – LHL

MIA Restaurant is one culinary space to behold. Located in a quite street in Sukhumvit 26, stands a modestly sized blue and white house, inside this house, a split level floor. Below a dimly lit bar and eatery. Upstairs boasts multiple themed rooms that create different sets of ambience. Each one boasting a quiet or loud extravagance in its own way, which leads us to the dining experience.
The Chefs at MIA have risen to the challenge of adapting the cuisine to pair with the space/s. Downstairs you'll find their friendly a la carte signature menu; fun to eat, easy to share, tasty and rich. A perfect match to their bespoke cocktails.
Whilst upstairs the chef couple have composed a 'fine dining' menu. The first bites arrive, beautifully crafted if heavily constructed and rather filling prior to a fulfilling course. The Mushroom Chawanmushi, Truffle Reduction, Swiss Brown with wild rice revealed more of Chef Top's technical French touch and appreciation of the simplicity of fine product, extracting sublime flavours of the earth.
Although, the salt baked beetroot, Smoked Yogurt came as quite of a shock, frosted and sweet and a litte out of its element when proceeding the mushroom. The Hake however, was a revelation, along with the Fennel & Lychee Sorbet by Chef Michelle. We loved how confident and bold they were without any excessive glitz or glamour.
These two dishes we believed most embodies strong personalities, sophistication in skill, and will be the dishes we will be talking about for quite some time. There is clearly a great amount of talent to be unearthed here, rub off some of the sheen, and the bright light will burst through, quite easily and naturally.

How to Make EASY Thomas the Tank Engine Swiss Roll Birthday Cake (Recipe)
Difficulty: Easy
Time: 3 hours
Number of servings: number of Swiss roll cuts
What You Need:
parchment paper
your favorite Thomas picture
black chocolate pen
colored chocolate pens
swiss roll
blue colored whipped cream
sugar sprinkles
Directions:
1. Print out your favorite character and place a parchment paper on top, secure corners with tapes. Draw the outer frame with black chocolate pen. Put it in the fridge to set. Do not refrigerate it too long, otherwise it rolls up.
2. Melt the colored chocolate pens, paint the same type of color, starting from light shade to dark if you can. Put in the fridge to set after painting each color.
3. Melt the white chocolate and cover the entire image to reinforce the picture. Put in the fridge to set. Remove it carefully from the parchment paper.
4. Place a Swiss Roll on a dish, then cover with whipped cream, decorate it with sugar sprinkles. Then attach Thomas chocolate at front and back.

We made cute earrings and a necklace shaped like swiss cheese in the microwave.
We did our best to source the materials from mostly 100 yen shops.
Make sure not to accidentally eat it!
*Recipe*
1. Add an appropriate amount of UV Resin Hard (REJICO) on an oven sheet.
2. Using a cutting knife, horizontally scrape the surface of the pastel colors (Daiso) and mix using a toothpick to color the resin, making sure to avoid creating air bubbles.
3. Pour into a silicone mold (Daiso). Make sure to pour a shallow layer. We poured too much into the mold and the work was quite difficult after because of this.
4. Shine a UV light for about 5 minutes to harden. An opaque silicone mold took longer than 5 minutes compared to the translucent mold. We recommend either hardening the resin after removing from the mold and shining the light from above or flipping over the mold itself and hardening.
5. Remove from mold.
6. Use a hand drill (Cando) or pin vice to create holes.
For this project, we wanted to use many sizes of pin vices cheaply so we used Daiso's "Type 15 Drill Bit Set for ironworking". Since these are drill bits that can be used in electric drills, we wore gloves and made holes by manually drilling. If you drill many holes of various depths without going through all the way, it will look more cheese-like.
7. Using 1500 sandpaper, sand down the surface. The gloss will be reduced and the matte finish will become a cheese-like texture.
8. Finish using a 46 cm chain necklace and a 13 mm resin earring hoop (Yuzawaya). We're using a 5 mm and 4mm round jump ring.
9. All done.

材料は100均グッズ多めで頑張ってみました。

*レシピ*
1.オーブンシートにUVレジン・ハード(レジコ)を適量 垂らす。
2.カッターでパステル(ダイソー)の面を水平に削ぎ落とし、できるだけ気泡ができないように爪楊枝で混ぜ、着色する。
3.シリコン型(ダイソー)に流し入れる。薄めに流し入れること。今回、厚すぎたのでこのあとの作業が大変でした。
4.UVライトを5分ほど照射し硬化する。半透明より不透明のシリコン型のほうが硬化に5分以上の時間がかかりました。取り出してから底面を上にして照射し硬化させるか、型ごとひっくり返しにして硬化させることをおすすめします。
5.型から取り出す。
6.ハンドドリル(キャンドゥ)やピンバイスで穴を空ける。
今回、いろんなサイズのピンバイスを安く使いたかったので、ダイソーの『鉄工用ドリル刃 5本セット Type 1』を使ってみました。電動ドリルに付けて使う刃なので軍手を着用し手動で回して穴を空けました。全部貫通しない深さの違う穴も空けるとチーズらしさが出ます。
7.1500番のヤスリを表面にかける。艶が落ちマットな仕上がりになり、チーズらしい質感になる。
8.チェーンネックレス 46センチと樹脂イヤリングフープ 13ミリ カン付(ユザワヤ)を使って仕上げる。丸カンは5ミリと4ミリを使っています。
9.でけた。

Matcha Strawberry Roll Cake
Difficulty: VERY Easy
Time: 1hr + cooling time
Necessary Equipment:
9-inch square brownie pan
electric mixer
Ingredients:
((Matcha Sponge Cake))
3 eggs
5 tbsp. granulated sugar
4 tbsp. cake flour
1 tbsp. Matcha (green tea) powder
((Fillings))
100ml whipping cream
1/2 tbsp. granulated sugar
cut strawberries
Directions:
1. In a bowl, place eggs and sugar. Beat on high speed with an electric mixer for about 10 minutes until white and fluffy.
2. Line the pan with parchment paper. Preheat the oven to 180C (356F).
3. Sift in cake flour and Matcha powder, half at a time, and mix on low speed with an electric mixer for a minute or two in total until just combined.
4. Pour the batter into the pan and drop it lightly on the counter to raise the air bubbles out of the batter.
5. Bake at 180C (356F) for about 12 minutes.
6. When it's done, drop the pan lightly to prevent shrinking.
7. Remove the sponge cake from the pan by lifting the parchment paper and place it on a wire rack to cool.
8. Meanwhile, combine whipping cream and granulated sugar in a dry, clean bowl. Float the bottom of the bowl in ice water, whisk the cream until firm peaks form.
9. When the cake is cool enough, remove the parchment paper. Cut off one end of the sponge cake diagonally.
10. Coat the surface of the sponge cake evenly with the cream and place the strawberries. Place the cut side on the other side, and roll up the cake. Wrap the cake in the parchment paper and cool in the fridge for 30 minutes to set.
11. Cut to serve. Use a sharp knife, carefully wiping it clean after each slice. Don't push but pull to cut.
