““Therefore don’t be anxious, saying, ‘What will we eat?’, ‘What will we drink?’ or, ‘With what will we be clothed?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient.” (Matthew 6:31-34 WEB)
Jesus knows that the world is driven by anxiety and fear. In their stressful pursuit for temporal things, they allow fruits of death to grow in their lives.
It’s no wonder that so many people are unhappy, complaining and dragging their feet like zombies.
We believers don’t have to act like the world because we have a Heavenly Father who loves us and already knows our needs.
The key to receiving what we need is to seek first God’s kingdom and His righteousness.
The New Testament defines God’s kingdom as the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:17) and God’s righteousness as Jesus (1 Corinthians 1:30).
When you seek the Triune God first in everything you do, all material and spiritual blessings will be given to you—including victory over your problems.
When you do things as led by the Holy Spirit, you will produce good fruits that last. They will bring you abundant life on earth and accumulate eternal rewards for you to enjoy in eternity because they are done in faith and love.
“I know that whatever God does, it shall be forever. Nothing can be added to it, nor anything taken from it; and God has done it, that men should fear before him.” (Ecclesiastes 3:14 WEB)
How do you differentiate between motivations of fear and motivations of being led by the Holy Spirit?
If you have the stressful feeling of “Oh no, I need to do this if not I will...” then it’s a motivation of fear.
Fear involves an expectation of punishment in one’s future.
“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear has punishment. He who fears is not made perfect in love.” (1 John 4:18 WEB)
However when the Holy Spirit leads you, He will lead you by love and peace.
You will have a cheerful desire to do what you’re led to do.
You will just know that it’s the right thing to do and it may not even make logical sense.
“Above all these things, walk in love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your heart to the Lord.” (Colossians 3:14-16 WEB)
Next time before making an important decision, pause and see if you’re being motivated by fear and worry, or by the leading of the Holy Spirit.
