[ASML Recruiting] IC Design Engineer
The job is located in Hsinchu/Tainan that could work on the advanced analog and mixed signal ASIC for next generation electron detection channel for the leading edge e-beam inspection and metrology systems with work life balance.
The following are the Job Descriptions for this opportunity
• Develop the functional blocks of high-speed Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) and/or Phase-Locked Loop (PLL) in ASIC for the detection channel of electron beam inspection tools, including:
• Define the design specifications of the Read-Out Integrated Chip (ROIC) or chipset based on product roadmap and System Performance Specifications (SPS) defined by system engineer.
• Develop new circuit architecture and technical solutions for next generation ASICs in detection channel, including feasibility study, schematic design, pre-layout simulation, layout design, and post-layout simulation.
• Cooperate with Printed Circuit Board (PCB) designer to design Evaluation Board (EVB) and with test engineer to test and characterize the ASICs.
• Create Element Design Specifications (EDS) and Test Performance Specifications (TPS) based on detail ASIC design and chip test/verification.
• Cooperate with IC design partner to develop the ASICs for detection channel of of electron beam inspection tools, including:
• Review the detail schematic and layout design, TPS, and test results from our partner during the ASIC industrialization phase.
• Together with the engineering team from the partners, identify design solutions to achieve the specifications of the module/function. Review the design details and simulation results from our partner.
• Support module level and sub-system level integration
• Generate and / or review related IP documents

When Volvo told me that “it’s our vision that no one should be seriously injured or killed in a new Volvo car", I was so intrigued…
Every year about 1.35 million people are killed in roadways* around the world, and here’s a car that is really going the extra mile to save lives.
Beyond being the inventors of the three-point safety belt that we use today (interesting story actually, I’ll save it for another day), the new Volvo cars have many safety features, and here are some that BLOW MY MIND
1. This car has a feature called “Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake” and does exactly what it sounds like it does - it can detect pedestrians (they have a whole seperate detection system for animals by the way) crossing the road, and will automatically pull the brakes on the car if the driver doesn’t.
2. My favourite feature is the "Lane Keeping Aid" — when I have this feature activated, my car sends a polite warning when the car drifts off a lane unintentionally. If I forget to signal when changing lanes, the steering wheel gently vibrates and kindly steers me back..
3. Adaptive Cruise Control - now this function really makes me feel like we're heading into a driver-less future!! When activated, the car will detect the speed of the car ahead and adapts it to its own speed with a time interval to keep some distance. This is a kind of semi-autonomos driving that comes in super handy during traffics because it gives your feet some time to rest (haven’t tried this yet because the roads are so clear, but I will one day!)
And ! Get this — Volvo shares their safety research in their online E.V.A. database which anyone can download. So kind 💙

Long time, no longplay! Today, I will be playing Disney's Aladdin for the Sega Genesis/Megadrive. It is certainly one of my favorite games on the system. Playing it again, I can see many more flaws that I overlooked as a child, but I think it's still a technical and artistic marvel.
I played this on Practice difficulty, and I played it on a real Model 1 Sega Genesis on my Toshiba CRT with a 6-button controller, but recorded it simultaneously via an OSSC hooked up to my XCapture-1 capture-card by splitting the signal with a Shinybow distribution-amplifier (SB-3729). I don't know how, but scanlines made their way into the footage. I don't remember enabling them on the OSSC, and my capture-software: VideoKeeper2, doesn't even have options for them. Maybe another effect of shifting parallel dimensions.
I died a lot on the escaping stage, but edited them out. I tried farming lives in the Rug Ride stage, but the game prevented me from doing that. I had some trouble figuring out how to beat the final boss, but eventually I did. I was glad they still gave me the ending, even on the easiest difficulty.

Coming off my playthrough of Contra: Hard Corps is the other great run-and-gun game on the Sega Megadrive/Genesis - Gunstar Heroes.
It is one of my favorite games on the system and I like to rebuy it whenever I can 😆. I am almost kidding; I have it on Steam and 3DS. I really like its bright color-palette, as well as its unique art-direction by Tetsuhiko Kikuchi (aka HAN). His style is unique. Nowadays, all anime seems to look alike, but his stuff looks very different from it. If you look at his characters in Guardian Heroes, Mischief Makers, and Radiant Silvergun, you can see the similarity to his work in Gunstar Heroes.
Like Contra: Hard Corps in Japanese, this game is very beatable and forgiving because you get unlimited Continues, at least on Easy: things I appreciate. The controls are a little weird sometimes. When you jump, you have very little horizontal movement, whether you are shooting or not. If you want any kind of significant horizontal movement while jumping, you have to press Jump again to do a dive. You can also get grabbed, and your options are not very clear. You can throw enemies afterwards, but other than mashing, I can not seem to figure out how I do it.
Other than that, this game is a treasure ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°). Back when it came out in 1993, I think I may have glanced over an article or an advertisement on this in a magazine, but I never ever considered playing it or buying it. Years later, people would regard this as one of the best games of its generation, but it was certainly not appreciated in its time, unfortunately.
Fortunately, I'm glad this game has gotten the respect it deserves over time, with multiple rereleases and ports. I played this game on a Mega Everdrive X7 (https://krikzz.com/store/home/33-mega-everdrive-v2.html) on a real Sega Genesis Model 1 console. I used an HD Retrovision Genesis/Megadrive cable (https://www.hdretrovision.com/genesis/) to output the video and audio to a Shinybow Component Video Distribution Amplifier (http://www.shinybowusa.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=37_49&products_id=433). It split the signal into two: one went to my Toshiba 14" CRT TV (component video), and the other went to my OSSC (https://www.videogameperfection.com/products/open-source-converter/), which I used to upscale the image 4X to 1280x960p. I sent this signal to my Micomsoft XCapture-1 capture-card (https://solarisjapan.com/products/xcapture-1-usb-3-0-hd-capture-unit) so I could capture footage.
I did play the game on Easy and edited out my deaths for as smooth a viewing experience as possible. I have beaten this game before, so I didn't die as much as I used to. I think I am ready to play this game on a harder difficulty.
