America Is Burning
🇺🇸 美國人民怒火沸騰
最近在全美沸沸揚揚的抗議行動，到底是怎麼回事呢？
進入文章之前，先來看看單字：
1. counterfeit「偽造的」
2. look on「站在一旁觀看」
3. bystander「旁觀者，路人」
4. unconscious「失去意識的」
5. pronounce「宣告」：也有「發音」的意思。
6. go viral「爆紅」：指某人事物在網路上迅速蔓延開來，眾人皆知。
7. protest「抗議；抗議行動」：可當名詞與動詞，另protester指「示威抗議者」。
8. loot「洗劫一空」
9. vandalize「破壞」

On the evening of May 25th, an African-American man named George Floyd lost his life in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Suspected of using a counterfeit $20 bill at a convenience store, Floyd was arrested and placed inside a police car. After a short struggle, a white officer named Derek Chauvin pulled Floyd out of the car, causing him to fall onto the street, where he lay face down in handcuffs. Chauvin then restrained Floyd by kneeling on his neck.
五月25日晚上，一名叫喬治佛洛伊德的非裔美國人在明尼蘇打州的明尼阿波利斯市喪命。佛洛伊德疑似使用20元假鈔在便利商店買東西，因而被逮捕，並壓入警車內。經過一陣掙扎，一名叫德瑞克蕭文的白人警察將佛洛伊德拉出車外，讓已上手銬的他臉朝下倒在地上。接著，蕭文用膝蓋壓住他的脖子，限制他的行動。
Over the next eight minutes, Chauvin kept his knee on Floyd’s neck, while three other officers looked on. Despite the fact that the Floyd said “I can’t breathe” at least 16 times, and several bystanders expressed concern for his condition, Chauvin only removed his knee from the man’s neck when an ambulance arrived. For his last three minutes on the ground with a knee in his neck, Floyd appeared to be unconscious. And hour later, he was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
蕭文持續壓住佛洛伊德的脖子長達八分鐘，在此期間其他三名警察就站在一旁觀看。即使佛洛伊德說了十六次「我不能呼吸」，而且好幾名旁觀者也出聲關心他的狀況，但直到救護車到場時，蕭文還是持續壓住男性的脖子。在佛洛伊德被膝蓋壓住脖子伏在地上的最後三分鐘，他似乎已經失去意識。一小時之後，他在當地醫院被宣告死亡。
A video of Floyd on the ground repeating “I can’t breathe” and “Don’t kill me” taken by a bystander quickly went viral on social media, and the next day Chauvin and the other three officers were fired from the police department. That same day, protests against Floyd’s killing began in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. They started out peaceful, but later became violent as buildings were set on fire, stores were looted and vandalized, and some protesters clashed with police.

The demonstrations have now spread to over 75 cities around the country, and the news is filled with scenes of violence and destruction. Chauvin was arrested on May 29 and charged with third-degree murder, but the fires continue to burn.
示威行動至今已經延燒到全美超過75個城市，新聞充斥著暴力與破壞畫面。蕭文在五月29日以三級謀殺罪被逮捕起訴，但是這股怒火仍持續延燒。

借這個標題抒發一下
首先感謝亞馬遜有製作繁中字幕 而且不是單純的簡轉繁
不過字幕有有些地方真的不太通順
感覺像是只看文本就直接翻了
而簡中的話個人認為整體上順一些 不過也是有不足之處
下面就列出一些我覺得可以調整或卡卡的翻譯
還有一些大家應該已經知道的雙關語
以下按劇情順序排列 當然有雷
1.皇家婚禮
Killer wedding, man.
繁:婚禮超讚
簡:這婚禮太驚絕了 哥們
個人看法:繁中沒什麼挑釁的成分
但這並不是什麼得體的稱讚
"煞氣ㄟ婚禮 老兄"
Did your parents send you to snobbery school or does looking down on people
just came naturally to you?
繁:你爸媽是送你去勢利學校 還是你天生就狗眼看人低?
簡:是你父母送你上過勢利學校呢 還是說這種高高在上的態度是你的本能?
個人看法:繁中似乎過頭了 講狗眼看人低感覺已經像是直接開罵了
我覺得可以翻作"還是你天生自認為高人一等?"
2.總統辦公室
takes the cake
繁:糕手過招
簡:(...腦子進水的事 但這一次...)進的是蛋糕?
個人看法:雙關語 既和前面的蛋糕事件相關 又有箇中翹楚之意
不過我覺得糕手過招似乎有點難笑?
或者乾脆翻成通俗點的步步糕升?

繁:妳不想聽我的意見
簡:妳不想聽我說吧
個人看法:Alex講到一半發現老媽臉色越來越難看後趕緊打住
繁中就只是字面照翻 沒有表達出那個情境
可以改成"妳現在應該不想聽吧"
3.宮前會面
wouldn't want to screw up the "shedyule".
繁:千萬不能擾亂行程
簡:我可不想影響日程
Alex故意學Shann的口音來表達自己的不爽
這個翻不出來 知道背後的涵義就好
My NDA is bigger than yours.
無論繁簡都在強調比大小而略過了NDA(保密協定)一詞
這部分也是無法兼顧的雙關語
4.記者採訪
you've been mates since you met at the Melbourne Climate Conference
several years back.
繁:你們許多年前在墨爾本氣候大會相識後就成了好朋友
簡:你們從七年前參加墨爾本氣候大會開始就成了朋友
個人看法:簡中很明顯翻錯了 不過繁中翻許多年也是怪怪的
應該"數年前"就好
5.床上講電話
Because some bellend decided to call me at 3:00 am to talk turkey.
繁:因為有個傻帽半夜3點打來跟我聊火雞
簡:因為有個憨包決定在凌晨3點給我打電話聊火雞的事
個人看法:bellend bell=鐘 end=尾 鐘擺的末端 像什麼東西自己想
傻帽一詞不知道是不是臨時發明的 因為好像從沒聽過
我是覺得用個厘俗的詞即可
這邊剛好想到一個台味十足意思又相近的詞 "白爛"
"因為有個白(北)爛半夜三點......"
個人認為應該沒有比這個詞更貼切的了(發音還很接近呢)
6.樹下初吻
Christ, you're as thick as it gets.
繁:老天 你有夠蠢
簡:見鬼 你笨死了
個人看法:繁簡都差不多 但我認為這邊Henry的意思應該是你真遲鈍
所以我想翻成"天啊 你這個大木頭"
7.白宮晚宴
My behavior was appalling.
繁:我的行為令人髮指
簡:我的行為非常惡劣
個人看法:繁中這邊又過頭了 雖然不應該但講的好像十惡不赦一樣
Your Royal Hardness
繁:王子殿下硬梆梆
簡:王子"硬"下
個人看法:這個大家應該都知道了 Your Royal Highness的下流梗
我看過某種講法給了我一個靈感 "inin國王子殿下"
8.馬球
H:Are you hungry?
A:Yeah, I could eat.
這邊翻譯沒問題 只是私心想糟糕一下
H:吃飽了沒?
A:我還有點餓...
9.巴黎咖啡廳
Which other famous boys have I shagged?
繁:我還跟哪些名人男性上過床?
簡:我還跟哪些有名的男生上過床?
個人看法:由於Henry喜歡對Alex講一些粗俗的字眼
所以我想翻成"我還跟哪些名門子弟搞過?"
A:...........was a mouthful.
H:He is.
繁:....已經夠拗口了
他有塞爆我嘴巴
簡:我還以為(自己的名字)長呢
他確實很長
個人看法:我是覺得繁中這邊太加油添醋
只要看到Henry的表情不至於聽不出他的弦外之音
10.德州long stay
By the way, we call them "trousers" not "pants"
繁:我們是說褲襠不是褲檔
簡:我們稱之為"長褲"不是"褲杈"
個人看法:英美用語之間的差異 但是繁中的字幕有點難理解
"那個我們稱之為長褲 你說的「胖次」在英國是內褲的意思"
以上只是概念 名詞可以替換
11.飯店抓姦
Little Lord Fuckleroy
繁:他媽的小王子
簡:小伯爵馮德羅
原出處是英國名著Little Lord Fauntleroy
Zahra的犀利台詞之一
簡中有被和諧的感覺
I will Brexit your head from your body
繁:你的頭和身體就準備脫鉤
簡:我就讓你的頭跟英國脫歐一樣脫離你的身體
個人看法:犀利台詞連發 相信每個人都對這句話都印象深刻
簡中有忠實翻譯出來 不過句子就變得有點拗口
繁中雖然沒翻出脫歐梗 但聽起來比較順暢 算是各有所長
12.王宮花園
What difference would it make if I did?
繁:有差嗎?
簡:愛又能怎樣?什麼都不會改變
個人看法:嗯 真的有差 未免太省略了
"就算我愛他又能改變什麼?"
13.夜裡的王子寢室
...and nothing will ever happen to you. But Henry,
nothing will ever happen to you.
繁:...你絕對不會碰到壞事 但是亨利 你只會孤單過一生
簡:...永遠不會出任何事 但是亨利 你也永遠體驗不到精彩
個人看法:Alex講了兩次一模一樣的句子
繁簡都把衍生的意思翻出來
可惜這樣就失去了重複的意義了
因為從光從語氣就可以感受一樣的句子不同的意義
所以我想盡可能兩個句子都差不多
"你絕對不會出什麼事 但是亨利 什麼事也不會發生"
Because I would never leave this room if I didn't think
there was any hope of holding on to the happiness that
I have found with you.
繁:因為我永遠不會離開這個房間 因為我認為未來可期
只要不放棄我跟你所找到的幸福
簡:因為如果我覺得沒希望繼續保持跟你在一起時的那種幸福
我是絕不會離開這間房間的
個人看法:很長的句子 又是否定的否定
以我對這段話的理解我會翻成
"除非我認為已經沒有任何希望能找到和你擁有過的幸福
否則我絕不會離開這個房間"
14.博物館

繁:請別催我
簡:請對我耐心點
個人看法:繁中聽起來像是在耍大牌...
完全破壞了整個氣氛
15.Zahra打電話
I've got the first son in my office, mooing over the prince
like a cow in labor.
繁:第一公子在我辦公室狂講王子的事
簡:我們的第一公子在我辦公室裡嘮叨著你們的王子
個人看法:不知為何繁簡都跳過後面的譬喻 可惜了Zahra的犀利台詞
"第一公子在我辦公室裡一直念著你家王子 像頭分娩的母牛在那邊唉"
Touch me and die.
繁:閃邊去
簡:碰我你就死定了
個人看法:直接照字面翻比較好吧
16.會見國王
Might as well start at the top.
繁:乾脆從頭開始吧
簡:不妨從地位最高的人開始
個人看法:繁中這邊又聽不懂在講什麼
Henry的意思是乾脆直接挑戰boss(國王)吧
"萬事起頭難 先從最大那位開始好了"
以上姑且列出幾點個人對於中文字幕的看法
希望能提供給再刷這部片的人一些樂趣
