鯊魚其實扮演著珊瑚礁保護者的角色：沒有鯊魚吃大魚，一些大魚增加，令到吃藻類的魚減少；藻類多了，影響珊瑚的恢復能力，令不少魚類失去珊瑚礁作為提供食物和棲息的場地。
