Climate change is changing our world. This vivid video by PUB, Singapore's National Water Agency reminds us climate change is not just an abstract, distant concept, but one of Singapore’s gravest challenges. We are seeing and feeling its impact already.
In my 2019 NDR speech, I described our efforts to mitigate and adapt to climate change (https://youtu.be/83sLKKUxicw). It’s not just protecting our coastlines and improving our flood preparedness. We will also reduce our carbon footprint and make our water supply more sustainable. Each of us can do our part by using water wisely, and not wasting this precious resource. – LHL
The Keppel Marina East Desalination Plant is our 4th desalination plant. Compared to earlier plants, the KMEDP uses land more efficiently, and is more accessible to the public. With the water treatment facilities located underground, the green rooftop is an open space for the public to visit and enjoy, like the Marina Barrage.
Whether you are enjoying this open space, or taking a sip of PUB water, I hope you remember how precious water is to Singapore, and the immense effort it takes to deliver clean, available water to everyone.
