大量啤酒和冧酒的供應，處處助燃美國獨立戰爭之火。著名的列克星敦和康科德戰役（Battles of Lexington and Concord）前夕，保羅．列維爾（Paul Revere）深夜趕至列克星敦，警告殖民地民兵英軍即將來襲。即使情況十萬火急，列維爾仍於途中到好友 Issac Hall 的酒館喝了幾杯。

作為美國獨立戰爭的導火線之一，1733 年的「糖漿條例」因為增加糖漿的稅項令冧酒成本上升，激起民憤。當時反對英國統治的秘密組織「自由之子」（Sons of Liberty），選址小酒館 Green Dragon Tavern 的地窖，商討如何對抗英軍。雖不知有多少對策是酒後之語，但至少後來發起波士頓傾茶事件的主意是少不了酒精影響。
