I hope that this discussion does not stop here. According to the Malaysian National Health and Morbidity survey (NHMS) in 2017 it was found that among Malaysians between the age of 13-17, 1 in 5 are suffering from depression and 2 in 5 suffer from anxiety. The Youth are most affected by this.

Mental health issues such as depression, are expected to be major problems by the year 2020. There needs to be a national conversation among government institutions, NGOs and citizens to help curb the stigma of mental health issues.

“Crazy”, “Attention-seeker”, “Drama kings/queens” should never be used against those struggling with mental health.

WHO reports that suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death in 15-19 year olds and 10-20% of adolescents experience mental health conditions that are untreated or undiagnosed.

The cost of us being silent is too high, we cannot lose more lives. There are many things to be done for this cause but we have to start somewhere and we have to start now.
