It's been nearly two weeks since they've started walking home on their own after school. It's good in the sense that these two, who stopped holding hands so much after the baby brother came along, took the opportunity to bond and be reminded of how they are not just sisters, but best friends too.
One has to wait for the other to be dismissed from class, they have to help each other to open up their umbrellas - the weather is usually either scorching or raining - or even share one when one of it turns inside out (I witnessed it while spying on them, lol), they each carry a heavy bag and walk side by side for the whole journey, they hold hands and never let go even when crossing the roads (I almost cried when I saw it cos' I didn't ask them to), they protect, care and look out for each other.
Just like how they will need to when I'm not around one day. Okay, being morbid again but I just wrote my first morbid post on the blog so don't blame me. Yup, I like to think that by involving them in household chores no matter how busy school life gets and letting them do things on their own (they were the ones who requested for me not to pick them from school) from a tender age, I am teaching them to be independent and be able to rely on themselves and on each other, not just on me.
Of course, they still can't cook a proper 三菜一汤 meal, bake a cake or iron their clothes. But surely, we will get there some day.
