PRIVATE @ The Chow Kit is a unique offering where guests enjoy the comfort, privacy and safety of private dining experience in a stylish, bed-less guest room at @ormondhotels. It is a great concept especially for parents with young kids.

Each room can only be booked by a maximum of six pax. I also love how everything is done with minimum contact - from register for our rooms, select and pay for our meals prior to arrival, dishes are delivered by visored, masked and gloved servers at set intervals. Service requests and additional orders may be placed using our personal phones and customization of the residence’s décor is available for special occasions. You can even stream your Spotify playlist from the smart TV in the room.

There is no premium charged for the exclusivity afforded by PRIVATE @ The Chow Kit – each private dining residence is offered at the same price as if one were to dine below at @thechowkitkitchenandbar . Most importantly, the food is good! We were having the Sunday’s special Sunday Roast, and have always been a fan of TCKK’s fish n chips, French toast, special rojak and cocktails.

Sending Asher to his enrichment class every Sunday means we get to explore some eateries nearby. Restoran Hor Por Cuisine is one such accidental find.

It is family run restaurants located in segambut area and they take pride in their Lui Cha dish (RM13). The warm green soup is a mixture of mint and parsley leaves, sesame seeds, peanuts, green tea and anchovies stock. Do inform them if you prefer vegetarian version. Just mix all the side dishes (fuzhuk, black eyed beans, long beans, toasted peanuts, choy poh), warm soup and rice together for a hearty meal.

Their braised pork mui choy and salted fish minced pork party were not bad too. The Hakka abacus however was a let down.

This restaurant serves one of the best Lui Cha that one can find in KL. Do try it yourself!

Instagram is a dangerous place - it makes you want to buy and eat everything. I was scrolling through my feed and saw this super delicious looking nasi lemak posted by @boo_licious and @babe_kl. Told @lexldf screw it, I want that now and so we drove to @tom_tasteofmedan located at Segambut area.

The nasi lemak was indeed very good. The chicken was flavourful and juicy, the tempeh and potato curry was good (we don’t even like tempeh to begin with), rice and sambal were on point too! The Soto Ayam looked plain but heaps of shredded chicken was hidden under that delicious broth. Even the Cham Ice was good. What a satisfying lunch! And the best part is almost everything in the menu is priced between RM10-13 only.
