Helping Hands
Last week my husband was called to go to the army for a week. I was left at home by myself without ten month old. I got a little taste of what it would be like to be a single mom. If I was in Canada this wouldn’t bother me. I’m quite an independent person and I like to do things on my own, in Canada I would just do what I need to do without him. But being a foreigner in Taiwan, it’s a different story. In Taiwan simply because I cannot read and write, I am forced to depend on other people. I need peoples help. I had to cover a lot of my husband’s classes as well and was feeling a little overwhelmed. But I am so thankful for all my amazing friends that came over to give me a hand with Enya, some of them came over just to watch her while I cooked, some of them even watched her for several hours free of charge. It was only a week for me and it felt like a lifetime not having my husband’s help. So if you know a single mom, or even if you just know a mom that looks like she needs a helping hand, go watch her kids while she cooks a meal, or offer to babysit while she takes a break. I promise you… she WILL appreciate it!
上個星期我先生被教招回軍隊裡面一個禮拜，所以家裡就只剩下我和一個十個月大的孩子，這個經驗讓我稍微體驗到當一個單親媽媽的感受。如果我是在加拿大的話那就還好，因為我本來就是一個獨立的人，我也喜歡自己處理事物，但是我現在是一個在台灣的外國人，狀況就有點不一樣了。因為我不能讀寫中文，所以我一定要依靠其他人的幫助，再加上我需要在老公的學校代課，壓力也當然更大，但是我非常的感謝我的朋友在這段時間一直過來幫我照顧恩亞，有些人會在我煮飯的時候過來照顧她，有些人照顧了好幾個小時也都不收我們的錢。雖然說只有一個禮拜，但是因為沒有我老公的幫忙，這個禮拜感覺上好像很久。所以如果你有認識的單親媽媽，或者是任何一個看起來需要幫助的媽媽，她煮飯的時候去幫她看孩子，在她想要休息的時候主動去陪她的孩子玩吧。我跟你保證… 她一定會非常感激你！
