ถ้าเราพูดถึงช่างภาพที่ใช้ Rolleiflex เป็นหลักหลายๆคนก็คงจะคิดถึงป้า Vivian Maier เป็นคนเเรกๆ เพราะรูปส่วนใหญ่ของป้านั้นใช้ Rolleiflex ถ่าย เเต่ยังมีช่างภาพอีกคนที่มีชื่อเสียงโด่งดังมากในเเวดวงช่างภาพสงครามที่ใช้ Rolleiflex เช่นกัน เเต่คนมักจะไม่รู้กันว่าเค้าใช้ Rolleiflex ด้วย เค้าคนนั้นคือ Robert Capa
เกิดเมื่อวันที่ 22 ตุลาคม ค.ศ.1913 Robert Capa คือหนึ่งในผู้ก่อตั้ง magnum เเละยังเป็น photo journalist ที่ถ่ายภาพสงครามได้สวยมาก ภาพเเต่ละภาพที่เค้าถ่ายเช่น เซ็ตภาพ magnificent eleven ที่ถ่ายที่ omaha beach ในวัน D day หรือภาพ the falling soilder ที่ถ่ายในสงครามกลางเมืองสเปนในปี ค.ศ1936 ล้วนเเล้วเเต่เป็นภาพถ่ายที่สื่อถึงอารมณ์ของสงครามได้อย่างดีเยี่ยมเเละยังเป็นที่ยกย่องของช่างภาพมากมายว่าเป็นที่สุดเเล้วของช่างภาพสงคราม
ส่วนใหญ่เราจะเห็นว่ารูปถ่ายของ Robert Capa เป็นรูป 35mm นั่นก็เพราะเค้าใช้ contax ii rangefinder ในการถ่ายรูปของเค้าซะส่วนใหญ่ เเต่นอกจาก contax เค้าก็ใช้ Rolleiflex ด้วยเช่นกัน
ถ้าเราค้นหาดีๆจะเห็นภาพถ่ายของ Robert Capa ที่ใช้ Rolleiflex Model RF111A ขณะอยู่ในสงครามหลายรูป เเม้เเต่เหตุการณ์ D-day Robert Capa ก็ใช้ Rolleiflex ถ่ายด้วยเช่นกัน รูปภาพสงครามที่ Robert Capa ถ่ายด้วย rolleiflex นั้น จะสังเกตุได้ว่าต่างจากรูปที่มาจากกล้องตัวอื่นเเบบเห็นได้ค่อนข้างชัดเจน รูปที่ถ่ายด้วยกล้อง 35mm นั้นส่วนใหญ่จะมีอารมณ์ของความเคลื่อนไหวเเละความโกลาหลอยู่ในภาพ ส่วนรูปจาก rolleiflex มันจะเป็นรูปที่นิ่งกว่าเเละหลายภาพสื่อถึงความเจ็บปวดของสงครามได้ดี
ในช่วงปลายยุค1940ขึ้นยุค1950 Robert Capa ก็ยังเป็นคนเเรกๆที่เริ่มถ่ายภาพสีอย่างเป็นจริงเป็นจังด้วย Rolleiflex ของเค้า ภาพส่วนใหญ่จะถูกถ่ายด้วย kodak kodachrome โดยมี ektarchrome เเซมอยู่บ้างไม่มากนัก ภาพถ่ายเช่นรูปของ pablo picasso กับลูกของเขาเล่นน้ำกันในปี 1948 เเละอื่นๆอีกมากมาย รูปเหล่านี้เป็นเพียงเเค่หนึ่งในพันภาพถ่ายของ Robert Capa ที่ถูกมองข้ามไปเพราะคนให้ความสนใจกับรูปภาพขาวดำของเขามากกว่า
จากทั้งหมดที่ได้กล่าวมานี้จึงเเสดงให้เห็นถึงความสำคัญทางประวัติศาสตร์ของ Rolleiflex มันคือกล้องที่ช่างภาพระดับตำนานหลายคนเลือกอีกทั้งยังเป็นกล้องที่ถ่ายทอดเรื่องราวของประวัติศาสตร์ในหลายๆเหตุการณ์ผ่านเลนส์คู่ของมันอีกด้วย
