I'm reading Jimmy’s picture book. There is a place makeing the story real
It’s Yilan!
2016-2017 Episode 37 Lanyang Plains one day tour(2)/
Jimmy is a famous Taiwanese illustrator. His charming picture books have been translated into more than ten languages and are sold all over the world. Yilan Train Station used to have a plain brick exterior, but as if with the magic of Jimmy, it’s been turned into Taiwan’s cutest train station.
I think the passengers waiting here must always get the time wrong, since they are so cute!
The old dormitories on the left side of the station have been repurposed as Jimmy Square. Whether or not you’ve read his books, if you walk into this colorful dream world you’ll be like me, unable to stop moving.
If you have Google translate the name of the park, you will come out like
SE:Du Du Dang
But the name is from a traditional Yilan song, so I’ll use the local pronunciation, Du~Du~Dang~ That’s right! Du Du Dang Forest!
Another unmissable photo opportunity lies across from the train station, where Jimmy’s Starry Starry Night Train hangs 14 meters up in the air under a forest of steel beams. The feeling of being able to sit up there must be different for every visitor.
Speaking of tradition, Yilan has a special drink that’s been passed down for over two hundred years. It’s a type of red cordial called “hungluh chiew”. The Yilan County government holds festivals for the beverage, which it’s even designated as the official county drink. As the first drink in Taiwan to be recognized like that, it’s easy to see that “hungluh chiew” holds a special place in the hearts of the people of Yilan.
The ingredients in an-chiew are red yeast rice and sticky rice. The people of Yilan have nicknamed the drink “red wine.” I’m going to have a drink, to see how it’s different from real red wine.
It’s smooth, mellow and has sweet aftertaste ,Not bad
“hungluh chiew” is the star product of Yilan Distillery, which was built in 1909. The distillery offers a range of delicious drinks to taste in the surrounding of some beautiful Japanese-era architecture. Tourists shouldn’t miss it! For example this building is the distillery’s administrative office, which blends western and Japanese architectural influences. It was even listed as one of Taiwan’s 100 most notable old buildings.
It’s so beautiful, that I almost feel “drunk” looking at it…
Aside from being used in distilling alcohol, red yeast rice is part of many innovative Yilan foods.
I just order several kinds of food, they’re all made out of red yeast, rice cakes, sausage and Hungluh Chiew boild egg, let’s have try…
Yummy
Or you may have this to cool of in summer,Hungluh Chiew rice cake popsicle, If you have a chance, you should definitely come and try it, I am Poyu Lin, enjoy your time in Taiwan! Ciao~see you next time.

A look around Setsubun, a Japanese festival at Senso-ji in Asakusa, the oldest temple in Tokyo! Plus: what else these is to see in Asakusa.
Setsubun is a Japanese festival (matsuri) every February to celebrate the start of spring. It's known as the bean-throwing festival. The main places it's celebrated in Tokyo are Sensoji and Zojoji. Famous people throw beans to the crowd for good luck, with chanting. There are also ceremonial dances and food stalls. It was a really interesting experience! In the video I also show you around the backstreets of Asakusa and Nakamise Dori, the oldest shopping street in Japan where you can get lots of street food and souvenirs. There's also a beautiful view of the SkyTree and the Asahi Building across the Sumida River.

Imarti or Jhangri is a dessert introduced by Mughal cooks to India and other countries of the Indian Subcontinent. It is made by deep-frying urad flour batter in a kind of circular flower shape, then soaked in sugar syrup. Alternative names include Amriti, Emarti, Omriti and Jaangiri. This dish is not to be confused with Jalebi which has comparatively thinner material and is sweeter than Imarti.
Imarti is made from a variety of urad flour, also colloquially called jalebi parappu (dal) or jalebi urad in south India. Sugar syrup and saffron is added for colour.
Urad dal is soaked in water for few hours, and stone-ground into a fine batter. The batter is poured into ghee, though other oils are sometimes used. Similarly to funnel cakes, the batter is poured into geometric patterns, although imartis are generally smaller than funnel cakes. There is often a small ring in the middle.
Before frying the batter, sugar syrup is prepared and is usually flavored with edible camphor, cloves, cardamom and saffron. The fried material is then dipped in sugar syrup until it expands in size and soaks up a significant amount of the syrup. In Northern India imartis are usually drained, so tend to be drier than jalebis. The pieces can be served hot, at room temperature, or sometimes refrigerated.
In South India, this sweet is served during the meal and also popular at weddings and festivals. In particular, Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh is famous for its imarti.

I was in Tokyo for work and they gave me permission to make a video while I was there. (Most of the time, I'm not allowed to blog about work stuff, because it spoils the finished product, or something.)
Asakusa is a big tourist destination for visitors to Tokyo. It is most famous for the Sensō-ji, a Buddhist temple dedicated to the bodhisattva Kannon. There are several other temples in Asakusa, as well as various festivals. Asakusa is Tokyo's oldest geisha district, and still has 45 actively working geisha.
It was fun to hang out in Asakusa, and the food was really good. I didn't get to record a proper ending because my camera died, but I had soba for lunch and it was really good, too. Haha.
