Food tracking is a habit I picked up about 5 years ago when I started training with @movementdynamicsfit but I’ve only started taking it seriously this lockdown as I’ve just been home.
I even go to the extent of weighing all the food and drinks I consume.
I’m thankful for my parents who are so supportive of my fitness journey and do not mind my crazy behaviour!
I use this app called “MyFitnessPal” to track the macros of the food I consume daily.
It gives me info on the % of protein, fat and carbs which makes me more conscious of the food I put into my body. At the beginning, food tracking was a nightmare. I HATED THE PROCESS SO MUCH because it was tedious and it can be quite tricky to track if you’re out dining and sharing food with friends.
However, this process got so much easier since I’ve been stuck at home! So slowly food tracking has become a big part of my life now. I track every single thing that I eat and drink! It’s become an obsession haha
The fun part is, along the way, I actually learned so much about nutrition.
e.g.
100g chicken breast= 3.6g fat & 31g protein
Whereas 100g chicken thighs= 8g fat & 24g protein
This is why I have switched to eating chicken breast instead of thighs/drumsticks as the fat percentage is relatively low.
My current fitness goal is to gain muscle mass & lose fat. I do not starve myself, I eat whenever I feel hungry, but I try to opt for healthier options. So I’ve drastically reduced fried/oily and sugary food.
Of course, balance is key. There are days where I eat desserts as well but I only take a small portion because when I discovered 50g of a tiny slice of yam cake I took the other day carried 200 kcal, I got shocked 😮
So anyways, the top 3 REASONS why my trainer asked me to track my diet are;
1) When I report to my trainer, there is more accountability and thus more discipline
- Having someone to be accountable to increases consistency and ultimately leads to better results
2) I learn more about the food I consume and my eating habits when I put in the effort to track myself
3) When I send my report to my trainer, he is able to learn more about my lifestyle and eating habits which allows him to optimise my programme

HEALTH SCARE - after suffering from bad acid reflux and belching and abdominal pain, finally decided to go for an endoscopy. A hard time for me as the man isn’t around, and I had to somewhat made the decision to finally do a scope myself.

I haven’t been the kindest to my stomach. I’m always having two breakfasts, late lunch, and early dinner followed by supper right before bedtime. Due to my teaching hours, and I tend to get very hungry and uncomfortable when I teach or move around and am not able to eat in 4 hours, eating became a very stressful part of my schedule planning.

Time to relook into my bookings and make sure I take care of my health. Acid reflux gives me very frequent sore throats too when I teach many classes back to back. Now I know why...

Preliminary report came back with a Sphincter issue hence causing frequent refluxes, and gastritis (inflammation) of the stomach wall. I urge everyone to eat healthy, for I don’t eat too bad stuff but yet anything can happen. Do take better care of yourself for no one likes to suffer with pain. To a better 2019! 🙏🏻

Biggest Nutrition and Food Myths Busted
“Anyone can benefit from a gluten-free diet: it can give you more energy and even treat autism.”
With more and more gluten-free products cropping up in supermarkets, it’s easy to think their benefits might stretch beyond the audience for whom they’re intended: people with celiac disease and gluten intolerance. Celiac disease is an autoimmune condition in which the body can’t digest gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye and barley; it’s marked by damage to the small intestine that leads to deficiencies because nutrients can’t be absorbed. A blood test is used to diagnose celiac disease. Gluten intolerance, on the other hand, may be diagnosed when abdominal distress, and sometimes fatigue, regularly occurs after consuming gluten—and celiac disease has been ruled out. If you don’t have a medical reason for following a gluten-free diet, “there’s probably no benefit,” says Tricia Thompson, R.D., a Massachusetts-based dietitian and founder of glutenfreedietitian.com.
When people with celiac disease or gluten intolerance go gluten-free, “they do feel better and more energetic,” adds Thompson, “but that’s only because they were feeling so sick before.” Those without a medical need to avoid gluten shouldn’t expect such results, she adds.
(If you suspect you have trouble with gluten, don’t self-diagnose. It is much more difficult to get a definitive medical diagnosis of celiac disease if one stops eating gluten.)
When it comes to autism, however, the case isn’t so clear-cut. Many children with autism have gastrointestinal problems, and some parents report that their children’s autism symptoms improve when they follow a gluten-free diet that usually also eliminates casein, a protein found in milk. (The son of celebrity mom Jenny McCarthy is perhaps the most famous example.) But objective clinical studies haven’t shown that the diet works. Most recently, in May, University of Rochester researchers reported the results of a well-designed (double-blind, placebo-controlled), four-month study of 14 preschoolers with autism. They found that a strict gluten-free, casein-free (GFCF) diet had no discernable effects on autistic behavior patterns, attention, sleep and other symptoms.
Indeed, a consensus report published last year in the journal Pediatrics noted that “available research data do not support the use of a casein-free diet, a gluten-free diet, or combined gluten-free, casein-free diet” for people with autism spectrum disorders. But that doesn’t rule out trying diet therapy, says Timothy Buie, M.D., a pediatric gastroenterologist at Harvard Mass General Hospital in Boston and lead author of the report. “At the minimum, these kids merit a nutrition consultation with a registered dietitian to determine if there’s an underlying problem.”
