Please don't read this if you're not prepared for my long rant.
So a couple of weeks ago, I posted a snapchat asking for NUS' courses COPs and to my dismay, one of my friends showed me a thread on an online forum where a number of people were making comments along the lines of "wa she think easy to get into NUS ah" "NAFA student wanna go NUS" "She not even from poly/JC wanna go NUS" "If she gets in it's probably only because she's famous". I must say I was pretty taken aback and even spent a few moments doubting myself.
HOWEVER, today's post isn't about that. Cos fuck it, why do I have to doubt myself because of that. I just wanted to share my two cents worth on how I feel.
I'm taking Arts Management in NAFA and no being in an arts school isn't all about PAINTING and DRAWING. In fact we don't even do that in AM, but that's besides the point. I don't understand why is it that just because we study in an arts school and not a poly/jc, we should be any less respected and shouldn't be allowed into a good local U.
I know I shouldn't be affected by these frivolous remarks but it frustrates me how every time I tell someone I'm from NAFA, they would pause for a bit and follow up with a "oh so you draw and stuff? Should be quite easy la nothing compared to JC/Poly's work"
LOL FUCK YOU.
We all have our own strengths and shortcomings I don't understand why do we have to be compared and put down for doing something we are passionate about.
I'm not trying to speak on behalf of all art students, but personally, I'm god damn sure I worked my ass off for the last 3 years in school and I feel like just like in any other course, there will be the best and the worst students. So you can be studying science and math, but you can also be the worst in the batch. With that said, I feel that we shouldn't be discriminated and judged on our adequacy just because we are in an arts school.
