Every year the U.S. State Department sends U.S. high school students to study Chinese in Taiwan through the National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y). On Wednesday, November 14, at 10:00 am (Taiwan Time), U.S. students from the NSLI-Y Taiwan and Korea programs will discuss their study abroad experiences and what it means to be a citizen ambassador. One of the reasons I decided to go on this trip was because of the partnership between the Singapore International Foundation and their local partners. The sharing of expertise and fostering of greater inter-cultural understanding is something @siforg does and that is pretty important in our world!

The programme is constantly evolving and I’m happy to report that since the last trip, there was a skills exchange visit by specialist Citizen Ambassadors- National Library Board (NLB) librarians and the Yogyakarta’s Board of Library and Archives local librarians and a contribution of over 60 new books! Wheee!!

I had almost forgotten how much fun I had during the Words On Wheels programme!

Managed by the Singapore International Foundation, implemented in partnership with the Board of Library and Archives of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (BPAD DIY), the mobile library will travel to 10 schools in Yogyakarta, providing approximately 5,000 students with access to books in English and Bahasa Indonesia, as well as laptops and tablets fitted with the Internet and learning applications. A larger part of the programme also trains librarians!
