A middle-aged queen asked me a while ago, at what age would it be okay to stop looking for a partner and resign yourself to the thought that you’ll be 'single'.

I said I did at 24, when I legitimately still had the choice. When you're already geriatric and telling people that you now choose to be 'happily single', isn't that a cruel joke, because nobody wants you anymore anyway...

But I have never equated being single with being unhappy.

And it's not like I've been partner-less since I was 24, I’ve had plenty of boyfriends. I just considered whoever that came and went a bonus, not a prerequisite for my happiness.
