PLEASE SHARE!!! PIGGIES ARE STILL DYING FROM HEAT STROKE WHEN IT COULD SO EASILY HAVE BEEN AVOIDED!!! 😥😥😥
WARNING!!! WE ARE CURRENTLY EXPERIENCING A HEATWAVE SO IT IS ESSENTIAL YOU TAKE EVERY MEASURE TO KEEP YOUR PIGGIES COOL TO ENSURE THEIR SURVIVAL! FOLLOWING ARE SOME HELPFUL TIPS -
1. Put frozen water bottles, large frozen icecream containers (if leaving your piggies all day), or esky ice blocks in the cage (don’t use the soft gel type as they will chew through them). You can wrap in a tea towel, hand towel or similar or leave uncovered – some piggies do like to lick the condensation off the container as the ice melts. Adding salt to the water will help it stay frozen for longer.
2. If housed indoors with no aircon, cover the cage with a thick wet towel and place a pedestal fan a few feet away from the cage. The wet towel will help cool the air as it blows on the cage. Put the fan on slow with no oscillating.
3. If outdoors, ensure the cage is in the shade for the entire day. Many piggies have been lost when left in the shade but by the time their owners have returned from work, shopping etc the cage has been in full sun long enough to cause heat stroke.
4. If you place your piggies in a playpen or similar, cover completely with a pale coloured sheet then shadecloth (even if the playpen is in the shade). Apart from helping keep your piggies cool, it will also protect them from predators such as birds and cats. This does NOT protect them from snakes and dogs unless the enclosure has been snake and dog proofed!
5. In regard to #4, make sure the covering is securely attached to the playpen/cage as it only takes one gust of wind to loosen fasteners such as plastic pegs, allowing the coverings to blow off, exposing your piggies to full sun.
6. Save plastic domes for the cooler months, replacing with such items as fiddlesticks (wooden archways), upturned polystyrene boxes with holes and doorways cut in them (place a brick or something else heavy on top to stop them moving around), small stools. Anything that provides shade while still allowing air to circulate.
NOTE: Some people have voiced reservations about using polystyrene boxes. If you are worried about your piggies chewing on the polystyrene and perhaps becoming ill then best not to go with this option but I personally used them for two or three years when I first started the rescue and had no issues at all.
7. Keep on hand plenty of fruit and veg with a high water content such as cucumber, watermelon, celery and crisp cos or gourmet lettuce. These will help keep your piggies hydrated.
8. Add an extra water bottle to your piggy’s cage, freezing one the night before. Remember to remove the bottle from the freezer
each morning otherwise it may crack. This applies to both plastic and glass bottles.
9. Place one or two large heavy ceramic bowls full of fresh cool water in the cage/playpen (can add ice cubes) . Even if your piggies don’t drink it, they like to put their front paws in to help cool them down.
10. White ceramic tiles remain cool to the touch so place one per piggy in the cage for them to lie on.
11. Finally, whatever you do, PLEASE don’t think that the enclosed bedding area of a wooden/lawn hutch, or a plastic dome, provide protection from the sun! These types of areas become like saunas and your piggies, while trying to find refuge from the hot rays of the sun, will die in these conditions. You MUST cover all types of cages, hutches, pens, with shadecloth, preferably leaving space between the cage and the shadecloth to allow airflow.
PLEASE NOTE IT IS OUR RECOMMENDATION THAT ALL PIGGIES BE MOVED INSIDE FOR THE DURATION OF SUMMER IF NOT PERMANENTLY, UNLESS YOUR HOUSE IS EXTREMELY HOT AND YOU DON'T HAVE AIRCONDITIONING AND/OR YOU HAVE A COVERED AREA OUTSIDE THAT REMAINS SHADED AND AT A REASONABLE TEMPERATURE. YOU WILL STILL NEED TO FOLLOW THE ABOVE GUIDELINES TO ENSURE YOUR PIGGY'S COMFORT.
C & C CAGES ARE GREAT FOR INSIDE HOUSING, ALSO LARGE PLASTIC BASED/METAL TOPPED ANIMAL CAGES AND DOG CRATES. OUR PIGGIES ARE HOUSED IN A LARGE SHED WITH TWO AIRCONDITIONERS RUNNING 24/7. MOST ARE IN LARGE DOG CRATES WHICH ALLOW AIR TO CIRCULATE.
WE OCCASIONALLY HAVE SECONDHAND CAGES FOR SALE. CONTACT US IF YOU ARE WISHING TO MOVE YOUR PIGGIES INDOORS. WE MAY BE ABLE TO HELP YOU WITH HOUSING.
NOT RECOMMENDED FOR INSIDE HOUSING ARE PLASTIC STORAGE TUBS! YOUR PETS ARE PRECIOUS AND ARE DESERVING OF A HOME SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR SMALL ANIMALS! HAVING SAID THAT THERE ARE MANY ENCLOSURES FOR SALE THAT ARE TOTALLY UNSUITABLE FOR GUINEA PIGS EG TOO SMALL AND WITH WIRE BASES!!

Wisdom is truly important for all areas of our life.
The first thing to get is wisdom and understanding to establish the foundation of our life.
A wise person seeks to know Jesus more, to gain further spiritual insight from God.
Then as we listen to Jesus-centered sermons, spend time in prayer and in God’s word, we gain more knowledge of Jesus and through that we receive abundance.
After that, our house be filled with all the material blessings.
“Through [skillful and godly] wisdom a house [a life, a home, a family] is built, And by understanding it is established [on a sound and good foundation], And by knowledge its rooms are filled With all precious and pleasant riches.” (PROVERBS 24:3-4 AMP)
Continuously feeding on God’s word strengthens us and prepares us to successfully overcome the trials of life.
“A wise man is strong, And a man of knowledge strengthens his power; For by wise guidance you can wage your war, And in an abundance of [wise] counselors there is victory and safety.” (PROVERBS 24:5-6 AMP)
Foolish people will think that wisdom is something impractical, and they will chase material blessings, especially when they are in a desperate situation.
However getting God’s wisdom is the most practical thing you can do because it leads to long life, riches, honor, peace and pleasure.
“Wisdom is too exalted for a [hardened, arrogant] fool; He does not open his mouth in the gate [where the city’s rulers sit in judgment].” (PROVERBS 24:7 AMP)
Facing a trial in life and seeing our response to it will be a good test to see how much wisdom we have received from God, and where we are at now in our spiritual maturity.
“If you are slack (careless) in the day of distress, Your strength is limited.” (PROVERBS 24:10 AMP)
Wisdom is more satisfying and beneficial than eating sweet honey.
It is worth it to prioritize receiving God’s wisdom on a daily basis.
“My son, eat honey, because it is good, And the drippings of the honeycomb are sweet to your taste. Know that [skillful and godly] wisdom is [so very good] for your life and soul; If you find wisdom, then there will be a future and a reward, And your hope and expectation will not be cut off.” (PROVERBS 24:13-14 AMP)
Seven is the number of completion. Creation took seven days to be completed.
Falling seven times represents falling utterly and severely in life.
Even if believers go through a rough patch in life, they can surely know that they will rise up again! We can never be permanently beaten down.
“For a righteous man falls seven times, and rises again, But the wicked stumble in time of disaster and collapse.” (PROVERBS 24:16 AMP)
There is wisdom in living life in this order:
1) Prepare your work: Building your career.
2) Build your house: Get your own property.
3) Establish a home: Start a family - Get married and have kids.
Pray for the Lord to bless you and guide you by His wisdom in each stage of your life.
“Prepare your work outside And get it ready for yourself in the field; Afterward build your house and establish a home.” (PROVERBS 24:27 AMP)
A person who has received God’s wisdom will not be lazy anymore.
The consequence of laziness is poverty.
God’s will for us is to be diligent and not lazy.
“I went by the field of the lazy man, And by the vineyard of the man lacking understanding and common sense; And, behold, it was all overgrown with thorns, And nettles were covering its surface, And its stone wall was broken down. When I saw, I considered it well; I looked and received instruction. “Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to rest [and daydream],” Then your poverty will come as a robber, And your want like an armed man.” (PROVERBS 24:30-34 AMP)
