🔍 Stage 5:Interview
🔺 Part 2:6 steps for preparation before an interview
1️⃣ Arranging & confirming interview details.
After receiving the interview notice, be sure to confirm the date, time, venue, interview process with the company and if you need to prepare and bring any specific documents or certifications. If you are traveling to a location that is quite far, you can try to ask if the company is willing to subsidize your transportation fees or if they are comfortable settling for a video interview instead.
Remember to arrange for your transportation in advance to the interview location and always arrive earlier than your expected time.
2️⃣ Deploy your best marketing skills.
An interview is all about selling yourself and your works to the company and for the job position, it is not about bragging how good you are, be careful of the difference!
The best technique is using your personal charm to market yourself. When preparing for an interview in the UK, other than paying attention to basic dressing etiquettes and formalities, do not be too humble as well. Try your best to display your merits, experience and value that can defeat other candidates. Do not be shy and rehearse your interviews often so that you do not get nervous during the real deal!
3️⃣ Resonating your works with the company.
It is crucial that your portfolio resonates with the company’s ethos. Learn and familiarize yourself with these details from the company website, reports and projects that they might have done. This helps you to engage deeper in conversation during the interview.
You could talk about a few of their projects which you admire. How it has influenced or inspired you and how your design beliefs and interest is similar to the company. Alternatively, you could also show a portfolio that is more aligned with what the company does so that you can discuss your works on a deeper level with them.
It is also recommended that you know your interviewers in advance so that you understand what draws their attention and what conversation topics will engage them. Check the company's website, LinkedIn, or even a google search to read up on your interviewers profile, articles they have written before and their experiences.
4️⃣ Portfolio’s target audience.
Other than bringing your portfolio works sent in during application, it is recommended that you bring an additional 1-2 completed works targeted towards the design nature of the company.
5️⃣ Understand the work scope and remunerations of the job.
Read the recruitment advertisement again, understand the scope of works and think of how the job plays a role within the company organisation. What would be the challenges? What are the takeaways from the job? Evaluate and weigh out these elements.
If you have had work experiences, did you meet similar challenges with your previous job? How did you manage to overcome them? More importantly, what are your views and thoughts about the job position. What can you value-add to the company?
In addition, don’t forget to check out the remuneration packages of similar job vacancies. Towards the end of the interview is where you would be asked about your ideal salary range and job package details – overtime pay, travel sick leaves, vacation days, insurances, time flexibility etc.
Consider the package in whole and negotiate clearly and confidently. It is important that you display a balance between your financial concerns and genuine interest and desire for the job. Avoid being too eager and overbearing during these talks.
6️⃣ Your curiosity towards the company.
What else do you want to learn about the company? An interview goes both ways; hence it is recommended that you prepare in advance some questions that you would like to ask the company as well.
This not only shows your deep interest towards the company but also helps to establish a closer connection between both parties. Be confident and enthusiastic, try to engage and extend the conversation topic or even start new ones. Let the company feel your excitement and curiosity!

Pioneer A Financial Life on Ethereum with A Non-custodial Banking Replacement by Mel Gelderman 在以太坊上開拓無需銀行託管的新金融生活
On the first day of 2019 Taipei Crosslink, the CEO of Monolith- Mel Gelderman gave a speech on their Monolith Ethereum Wallet + Tokencard and how people are starting to know and embrace Blockchain technology in our daily life, not for gambling or fraud, but for the real positive changes it can bring to the world!
monolith.xyz
Everything dates back to 2015 when Taipei Ethereum Meetup was merely a small group of people… Mel started off the speech with the memory of him stepping into the Ethereum ecosystem!
Story-telling time!
A brief description of Monolith
Monolith is a decentralised banking alternative on Ethereum, with its current business area in Europe. There are two main products: Monolith app is a contract wallet to transfer cryptocurrency to fiat money; Tokencard is a the debit Visa card that anyone can use just like a normal Visa card.
The Status Quo
Monolith has been through the FCA Sandbox in UK. However, AML(Anti-Money Laundering) and KYC(Know Your Customer) are policies Monolith has to comply with.
AML and KYC can be achieved by simply looking into the origin of the cryptocurrency or tokens, as everything on Ethereum is there, open and transparent: if an address is known to be of illegal source, banning it solves the problem.
Currently, there are already more than 1000 users using Monolith Wallet and Tokencard to cover daily expenditure!
TKN Token: Be our own bank!
Though the topic of TKN wasn’t brought up in the speech, TKN plays a crucial role in the ambition of Monolith: to return the interest of depositing money from banks to users. For more information: CLICK!.
If you’re interested in such ambition, also check out: Compound!
Demo Time
Mel demonstrated how to use their Monolith Ethereum Wallet. During the demo, there’s an anecdote really amused everyone:
The transaction time on Ethereum is surprisingly not really longer than the time on Visa lol
Apart from the above evidence that blockchain is rising ;) Here are a few notes about Monolith Wallet worth mentioning:
Monolith Wallet is a contract wallet with a recovery mechanism, which solves the problem of usual wallets that there is no way to get back your assets on blockchain once the private key is known to the attacker.
Whitelisted addresses are specific addresses not bounded by daily spend limit, and cannot be modified afterwards. Combining the two, even if an attacker gets to know the private key, the attacker can only transfer up to the daily spend limit, and the owner can transfer the remaining assets to the whitelisted addresses.
Monolith is also working on another recovery mechanism to deal with the situation of losing your phone. Stay tuned!
Monolith Tokencard also has every mechanism one needs for a normal debit card: freezing and unfreezing the card, reporting lost card, etc.
The workflow of using Monolith:
Decide the amount of cryptocurrency for exchange -> Decide the targetted fiat currency -> Wait for transaction confirmations on both Ethereum and Visa -> Success! This is now the debit card with money to spend :)
To wrap up this section, Monolith is the purest DeFi you can imagine! — Mel
Future Goal
Back in the days, it’s impossible to live solely on a Bitcoin wallet, as the exchange between cryptocurrency and real-world currencies was never easy.
However, with Monolith Wallet right now, the blockchain technology is mature enough for people to rely on the blockchain solution for daily payments, rather than trusting in banks to deal with our money.
It’s not hard to imagine that in the future, with the mass adoption of the blockchain technology, we might be able to receive cryptocurrency as salary and pay many things to anyone in every corner of the world with only a single wallet and a few clicks on your phone!
Questions
1. When or if it’s possible for Monolith to be available in Taiwan?
South Korea may be the first place for Monolith in Asia. Taiwan is on the list for sure, and hopefully, Monolith will be available by the next time when Mel visits Taiwan ;)
2. What is Monolith’s opinions on anonymity and privacy?
AML and KYC are the agreement Monolith made with Visa and FCA. However, Monolith is considering issuing a token to compensate users for going through these policies!
Conclusion
Mel’s is definitely one of the most inspiring speeches: Monolith and Tokencard visualize the dream that blockchain technology can really help make our society a more decentralised place and reduce the risk that we have always been staking on the centralised institutions!
In the end, I’d like to quote a line from Mel to summarize the speech and also his enthusiasm towards blockchain and Ethereum:
We are on the cusp of the most exciting moment in Ethereum since its creation!
Special thanks to Mel Gelderman for the friendly and patient feedback on my questions and recommending me COMPOUND!!! also, to Yahsin Huang for reviewing and her helpful advices and as usual to Chih-Cheng Liang for organizing the TEM column:)

It has not been an easy January! It’s great but it isn’t easy.
Came back from the UK and had to move into KL the next day then went straight into Bootcamp without letting myself rest was hard, the jet lag ! But i got right into Malaysia’s timing super fast due to our tight schedule.
Came out of bootcamp, jumped right into the first day of my new job. Gosh I really should let myself rest before jumping into everything!
Body broke down, got fever, flu, sore throat and everything bad ? Even lost my voice ! Didn’t manage to get my car as expected so had to spend a fortune on Grab 🤦🏻♀️
With my money rushing out of my bank account like waterfall, that’s not the worst. Worst thing is my old job decided to delay my December salary for God Knows how long because it’s fun? #lame
But despite everything bad,
I loved UK and every bit of it.
I’ve met great gals and made great friends in the bootcamp!
New job is challenging yet I love my new job and management is way up to my liking.
Finally got my new car now which means I’m back into driving freely !
New job means I’m having more time after working hours and finally could go back to the gym after a year of no gymming cz this soft hearted teacher gotta teach her kids tuition 🤗
All of that, dealing with LDR with my @hackhappy247. He makes things easy cz he awesome and thank you for being so helpful and understanding ❤️
Love ya my best-est xxx
Life is still great y’all ! Be grateful x

Back in the colonial era, British-born dominated Hong Kong’s senior government posts, including the position of administrative officer. Dr. Patrick H. Hase was among the 3,000 people who were dispatched by the U.K. authorities to govern the city in the ’70s. “I arrived on Oct. 2, 1972, so it’s been exactly 48 years since I got here,” says the 73-year-old.
Upon obtaining a PhD in history from Cambridge, Hase moved to Hong Kong to join the colonial government, without expecting to find something worth more than a high salary. “After checking in at the Lee Gardens Hotel at 5 p.m. on my first day here, I visited Jardine’s Crescent with my wife. The place was different back then. It was a wet market packed with different stalls and people, very lively. We had only been married for one month. I told her I wanted to live here. I liked it a lot and felt happy here.”
