Simple but sincere. That's what we strive to achieve every year when it comes to making Teacher's Day gifts. Yup, we still believe in making them, not buying them, although we did get some Kit Kat to go with these bookmarks in the hope that the teachers can find time to take a break or pick a book up to read.
These bookmarks are a combination of the kids' efforts - the main quotes are done by the 9yo who is very much into handlettering nowadays, the drawings are done by the 6yo while the pasting of stickers is done by the 3yo who also wrote his own name on every card for his teachers. They are given the freedom to write any personalised message and add some decorations if desired. Does that mean I did nothing? Haha. Got lar, I helped to laminate and cut the bookmarks (got rounded edges somemore okay), guide the boy in writing the messages, cut the strings as well as teach the kids how to tie them on their own.
It warms my heart to hear how the teachers appreciated these simple gifts. One was shocked that all the words were handwritten on a blank piece of paper and said "I thought you printed it", one said "I always keep all the handmade stuff from you all" and another said "so nice of you to do this yourself". It's a reminder that gifts do not need to be costly or unique; they just need to be done from the heart with ❤.
So yup, we will continue doing these super easy but heartfelt DIY gifts to show our respect and appreciation for the teachers every year. Happy Teacher's Day to all the teachers (actually including parents because we are the first teachers to our kids) in the world, thank you so much for making a difference and helping to shape our little ones.
