A mama Yellow Bearded Goby sits next to her eggs in the seriatopora hystrix coral.
I remember a time when these bearded gobies (also known as hairy gobies) were a craze amongst the macro photography community. They were popular because of how cute they looked and everybody wanted a stab at shooting them.
What a lot of people didn’t realize was that photographing them was an absolute nightmare, as these flighty, timid subjects would do everything but pose for your lens. More often than not, photographers would end the dive rather disappointed with their attempts.
These guys can be found throughout Southeast Asia, the Indo-Pacific and a few other locations. Finding the right corals is the key to finding these guys.

As a filmmaker/creator, I can only continue working on past projects and shoot some shorts like this to entertain myself.

If you want to differentiate your work from others, you really need to get creative with your shots and camera movements. In this video I will be giving 3 tips on how to shoot better cinematic videos in the city.
The first tips is adding action to your subject. Having more motion with your subject can really excite the viewer, and it gives a more energetic feel to the video. The second tip is using extreme perspectives. Essentially you want to show a place through your own perspective, not through a reference from someone else. In order to achieve unique looks, using extremely wide or cropped lenses can help you find that look! The last tip is shooting handheld. Gimbal shots and handheld shots can play different roles when it comes to b-rolls. I personally like the feel of a handheld shot in this situation. It really adds a sense of intensity and realism to the shots.
