Some people ask me if I like【Yakiniku Great, originally from Tokyo 🇯🇵】Sheung Wan or H Code SOHO shop better?
Actually for taste its similar enough despite different managements, very good but not the best Yakiniku level anyway. My recommendation is always to order "A La Carte" at Great, as somehow I am not into their Tasting Menu selections 👀, which seem half budget planned if you understand how Wagyu parts are butchered & priced in Japan, & a lot of it involves Marketing. Its a bit more convincing if we select ourselves.
"SOHO H Code" does have more professional Chefs helping you cook, also they defrost 解凍 the Wagyu better.
"Sheung Wan" somehow is more relaxing with friends, service is more friendly casual. It depends what kind of environment you desire that instance!

There's not just one road to the destination, but many roads. You just need to take the little step that’s right in front of you, and then the next one, and a few years down the track, they will seem like massive achievements.

I didn’t meet my father until I was 6 years old. My parents had a comfortable, middle-class life in Shanghai, or as close as you could get under communism. But they always wanted to live overseas, and just before I was born, my dad came to Sydney to set things up. I don’t know why, but in the end, my mother and I didn’t join him until I was 6.
•a middle-class life 中產階級生活
•set things up 打點一切
★★★★★★★★★★★★
Unfortunately, half a year after we arrived, he left us. That was a huge shock. Our transition had already been quite difficult, as we both didn't speak English. Also, as Shanghai was such a big bustling city, Sydney felt a bit like the countryside, especially on the weekends, as no shops were open back then!
•shock 令人震驚的事件(或經歷);驚愕,震驚 (come as a great shock 讓人倍感震驚)
•a bustling city 繁華都會
★★★★★★★★★★★★
We were very much reliant on my dad, not only financially, but also as a conduit into the wider community. So to have that broken was quite distressing. I remember Mum crying a lot. As we had become socially isolated, we didn’t find out anything about Centrelink, so we survived on her savings for a while, and then got some help from her family back in China.
•be reliant on…
•a conduit into 進入...
•distressing (adj.)
•survive on her savings
★★★★★★★★★★★★
Eventually, Mum moved us down to Melbourne, where we were able to make some new networks and family friendships. But I was bullied a bit at school about things like my food and clothing! Whenever someone bullied me, I would defend myself, but because I didn’t have the language skills to explain to the teacher why, I got in trouble quite a bit. I ended up having to move school 3 times before I came to Balwyn Primary School, which was relatively multicultural.
•be able to 能夠
•make new networks 建立新的人脈,關係網
•be bullied 被霸凌
•get in trouble 惹上麻煩
★★★★★★★★★★★★
After that, I did alright. Music featured very prominently in my life. I had started learning the violin from the age of 2.5 years old and even with all the troubles that were going on in my life, had somehow still kept up with it. As a result, I got a music scholarship to Trinity Grammar School. But even there I used to get into quite a lot of mischief, and would often skip school to go to the movies.
•feature (v.)
★★★★★★★★★★★★
By the end of year 11, I was told I would have to either repeat the year, or consider going to another school, which was quite humiliating for my mum. I decided to move school and surprisingly, I ended up doing quite well in year 12! As a result, I ended up getting into a double degree in Law and Music at Monash.
•repeat the year 留級 ; 重唸一年
★★★★★★★★★★★★
When I started, my first thought was that I didn’t belong because I had done so badly in school up to year 11 and everyone else seemed so smart. But I put my head down, got through it, and ended up getting a job in the legal department of a major manufacturing company, which was a different approach to what most law students do.
•do not belong 不屬於這
•put my head down 埋頭苦幹
•the legal department of ...
•a different approach 不同途徑
★★★★★★★★★★★★
I really enjoyed it. It was hard work, but I learned a lot of foundational business, legal and corporate communication skills. After that I worked in corporate governance in RMIT, then started to moonlight as a lecturer in the Law Faculty. Eventually, they asked me if I wanted to do a PhD and I blindly said yes! I next worked at Swinburne University, and then was head-hunted to lead the corporate legal team at the Commercial Passenger Vehicles Commission.
•corporate governance
•moonlight (v.)
•headhunt (v.)
★★★★★★★★★★★★
I had a good life, but after a while, I realised I wanted a different kind of job. I could see my seniors were making a lot of money but that their family life was not that good. And looking at my own upbringing, I wanted to be the kind of father who could be present in my own kids’ lives. So I decided on dentistry. It would not only allow me to use the hand skills that I had developed from playing the violin, but also the analytical and reasoning skills that I'd developed in law. Plus it would be flexible, and offer me a stable income and the chance to meet different people every day!
•analytical and reasoning skills
•offer a stable income

My now fiancée, who was my girlfriend at the time, was also applying for further study, and coincidentally we both got into university in South Australia, so we moved to Adelaide together a few years ago.
•fiancée 未婚妻
•at the time 當時
•apply for 申請
★★★★★★★★★★★★
I was lucky to get a university job at Flinders University. Initially, I started out as a casual lecturer in the law school, but I’ve since transitioned into teaching health law and research, and I’m currently writing a few books on the intersection between law and medicine. And also, obviously, trying to finish my dentistry degree!
•start out as…
•transition into…

Mum eventually retrained as a Chinese high school teacher, and she’s still teaching to this day. Like most first generation migrants, she struggled quite a lot, and invested heavily in my success. After we’re married, my fiancée and I are planning to have children, and I’m sure they will have it much easier than I did.
•to this day 至今
•have it much easier

Still, a lot of the failures that I’ve had in my life have really informed a lot of my successes. Looking back, I wouldn't really want to change that to have a smoother life.

•have a smoother life 有一個更順遂的人生

Over the years, I've learned that perseverance is very important. I hope that through telling my story, I can be an example to others who might be in a similar position as I was: to show that there's not just one road to the destination, but many roads. You just need to take the little step that’s right in front of you, and then the next one, and a few years down the track, they will seem like massive achievements.
•over the years 多年來
•be an example 成為榜樣
•be in a similar position
•down the road/line/track

Buy the Truth
“Buy the truth, and don’t sell it. Get wisdom, discipline, and understanding.” (Proverbs 23:23 WEB)
Nothing is more precious than revelations about Jesus who is the way, the TRUTH, and the life. He is also who Wisdom represents in the Book of Proverbs.
Godly wisdom is stored up and reserved like precious treasure for the “upright” who are God’s children.
“For Yahweh gives wisdom. Out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding. He lays up sound wisdom for the upright. He is a shield to those who walk in integrity; that he may guard the paths of justice, and preserve the way of his saints.” (Proverbs 2:6-8 WEB)
To sell the truth means to give it away—discarding it as if there is anything else more worthy to trade it for.
When we trade revelations of Jesus away and choose to embrace ways of the world instead, we get conned into a bad deal.
Only knowing the truth can set us free. If we sell the truth, then we are left with unprofitable lies that leave us in bondage.
“Jacob boiled stew. Esau came in from the field, and he was famished. Esau said to Jacob, “Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am famished.” Therefore his name was called Edom. Jacob said, “First, sell me your birthright.” Esau said, “Behold, I am about to die. What good is the birthright to me?” Jacob said, “Swear to me first.” He swore to him. He sold his birthright to Jacob. Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils. He ate and drank, rose up, and went his way. So Esau despised his birthright.” (Genesis 25:29-34 WEB)
Esau was a man who was very short-sighted. He could only see what was in front of him. He was very hungry, and there was freshly-boiled stew, so he sold his birthright for a meager bowl of stew.
The birthright was something intangible to him so it did not seem real or valuable. He was a man who walked by sight and not by faith.
When you are feeling a desperate need, do you sell the truth and buy the world’s ways?
“All these revelations about Jesus are not practical or useful. Don’t get me wrong, they are good to know, but they cannot help me fix this problem in my life.”
A statement like that is like Esau despising his birthright, saying, “Behold, I am about to die. What good is the birthright to me?”
If you treat the Gospel of Jesus Christ as precious, God will be really pleased, for that is what He considers as true treasure. He who honors Jesus, receives honor because every good thing is found in Christ.
“For to the man who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy; but to the sinner he gives travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him who pleases God. This also is vanity and a chasing after wind.” (Ecclesiastes 2:26 WEB)
Can you see that God considers wisdom, knowledge, and joy as His precious gifts and priority, whereas gathering and heaping up (material wealth) is seen as a secondary matter?
You buy the truth by seeking out revelations about Jesus Christ, and making it your priority to know Him more.
When God gives you a rhema word, act upon it. Doubt it at your own detriment. God is good and His word is true. Buy the truth and do not sell it!

◆Lyrics
Due to these drifting thoughts, in the unfulfilling rain
I'm enshrouded by the blazing dull-colored moon
I know you by your wavering voice
Existing as if it were in a dream
Break through the night and let go of that trembling heartbeat
I'm relieved, if I become sentimental
The backchanneling doesn't seem to repeat
Remaining submerged in the depths of a daydream
Dear you, who failed to die
Living idly and dying as if dreaming
Preach to my talentless brain, sisters
All I can do is lower my head
Love and the likes are not enough, if my disposition can't be helped then
Let's vow to reunite, I don't want to
Look at just me in this moment
I've fallen in love, if I dye it in lightheartedness
Just blindly, earnestly walk
The occasional gestures made and
That gaze that pours out everything
So dark that our eyes won't be able to meet
In a blink of an eye, I want to live in an intoxicated dream
Pierce that darkness with a seemingly thunderous roar
Don't stop dancing to it
I realized, if you're dyed by a tyrant
Then that smile won't have any value
As if you're about to spit it out, unravel the kind words
Joke around as if you've forgotten about everything tomorrow
With scars on your heart that remains pierced
As if we're running away, these trampled feelings
隠して
Hide them
Seemingly dazzling individuals I cannot bear to look at
What kind of dream are you creating for yourself?
Something that won't make you keep biting your lips
Don't show your falling drops of tears
Don't show any weakness
The truth is that I wanted to say this
Even if you say it's just pretty words
Captivated by this mirage, you are to the extent of being dazzling
Just like the beautiful future
I fell in love, in a world that no one knows of
Going towards the story of that day I wished for
Dani)

Lyrics:
I moved away and changed my number and when I did it
I’d hoped that cutting you off would make me feel different
I know I'm weaker than I probably seem
I can't lie I blame you for everything
All pins and needles when I meet somebody new and I
Get all choked up whenever they ask about you and I
Feel so pathetic and I wanna scream
I can't lie I blame you for everything
I think you know exactly what I mean
You really fucked me up
Screaming at my mirror like I’m fucking drunk
Question who I am and what I could’ve done
'Cause you're the one who told me that you were in love, oh
You really fucked me up
Close my eyes and think of anything but us
Made me feel like I'm the one who's not enough
But you're the one who told me that you were in love
Try to forget how you could never meet me in the middle
How all the pain that you inflicted made me feel so little
A little tired of remembering
I can't lie I blame you for everything
You'd change so quick you'd start a fight and make me say I'm sorry
Make me look like a fucking idiot at every party
It made sick it’s so embarrassing
I can't lie I blame you for everything
And I think you know exactly what I mean
You really fucked me up
Screaming at my mirror like I’m fucking drunk
Question who I am and what I could have done
'Cause you're the one who told me that you were in love, oh
You really fucked me up
Close my eyes and think of anything but us
Made me feel like I'm the one who's not enough

But you're the one who told me that you were in love, oh

Taiwan is Wild
Although it might just seem like a technological and industrial manufacturing hub, 70% of Taiwan's landmass is actually lush wilderness ideal for outdoor adventure sports! It's the perfect place to go hiking, river tracing, canyoning, rock climbing, and even white water rafting.
There are also over 100 natural hot springs in Taiwan. From November to March every year, people hike up the rivers to rediscover these scenic hot springs, as most of them get covered up with shale during the typhoon season. New pools are made each year by hand, just by moving a few rocks around. And the temperature of pools is adjusted by the amount of cold water let in from the rivers. I hope next year you join in the annual hot spring season. But there's no shortage of crazy adventures you can take part in if you come in the summer instead.
