Before I share my labour story, I just wanna share on my birth plan.
What’s a birth plan?
Your before, during & after plans for delivery. It includes your well-being & baby care.
Why you need one?
> for better birth experience
> to expect the unexpected
> minimize disappointment
> to achieve understanding between you & doctor
When to have one?
I prepared mine towards the end of 2nd trimester.
For me, my priority is to have Kim as my doula through it & least medical interventions possible. So, even though my original plan is to give birth at Hospital Putrajaya on FPP, I changed to SALAM Shah Alam when HP didn’t allow any company or visitor during & after the labour
because of the alarming covid cases.
After I prepared my birth plan, I went through it together with the doctor & check which ones are feasible & practical, cancelled those that aren’t possible (like video recording in the LR 😂).
Most importantly, childbirth can be unpredictable so your birth plan has to be flexible. So, here’s mine...
Simple birth plan
*DURING LABOUR*
* husband/mom in a room, 1 doc & 1 nurse (not a team of cheer leader, I want a calm as possible environment, unless additional med assistants needed for safe delivery)
* No episiotomy
* Pain meds (induce/gas) only if asked
* Free to move while waiting for 10cm
* Allowed to use birthing ball
* Allowed to listen to music
* Less vaginal exams possible
* Coach on when & how to push
*AFTER DELIVERY*
* immediate skin to skin
* Delayed cord clamping
* Father cuts the cord
*BABY CARE*
* No shower
* No pacifiers
* Breastfeeding
* Explain all newborn procedures before conduction

Doesn't little Liyana remind you of our Iman Daniella?
.
When I was young, I'd watch my mum slab Vaseline over her lips and then top it off with her coral lipstick before heading to the hospital. She worked on shift as a nurse and those who have met mum will know what a simple and practical person she is; sunscreen and her "2-step lipgloss" constitutes as "makeup" for mummy. She said, "I must look presentable even if I'm working during night shift".
.
So when I played "makeup-makeup" as a young girl, I would take mum's Vaseline, use a cotton bud as my lip brush and apply mum's coral lipstick (yes, she he had just one lipstick for the longest time!) and wore it as my blusher and eyeshadow too ! I was 15 when I made my own money as a part-time waitress and I bought both mum and myself an eyeshadow palette that came with a nude pink lip tint.
.
Back to Liyana.
.
Liyana and the Orang Asli community living in Kg. Belihoi, were part of the Vaseline Healing Project's outreach program in collaboration with HOPE Worldwide Malaysia.
.
I still carry on mum's "2-step lipgloss" tradition with my daughters and I felt compelled to do this with little Liyana because of her uncanny resemblance to my middle love. She was also in my team when Yasmin Hani and I taught the children about the importance of segregating our waste responsibly and how we can be more environmentally conscious in all that we do.
.
This local partnership is aimed at helping at risk and vulnerable communities who live in poverty in Malaysia to gain access to proper dermatological care alongside basic healthcare.
.
Besides educating the villagers about good hygiene practices , we had our team checking their BMI, blood pressure, sugar level and other minor medical concerns too.
.
Shy Liyana went about applying "lipstick" to the other young girls at the village using my tub of Vaseline. She said "Nurse Dafine" taught her how to be a makeup artist!😄.
What a lovely way to spend my Saturday morning. Thank you Belihoi for allowing us into your homes and hearts.

TRAVELING AND WORRIED ABOUT JET LAG?!?! Here are some of mama's tried-and-tested top tips!
***
Estimate about one day for every hour difference just to give you some expectation of how long it might take.
Be gentle but also go with the flow. If your little one is hungry at her usual feeding times from destination of origin or wanting a nap...feed her, nap her, etc.
You are much better off taking half an hour to give her a little snack at 3am (lights are low, quiet, no animated loud playing, little snack or warm cup of milk/nurse then back to bed) over trying to fight her to go back to sleep for the next 3 hours on a hungry stomach that will turn into screaming and finally everyone waking up and giving up and starting the day exhausted and cranky.
***
Similar to that, there is also no point trying to keep her up when she's clearly exhausted because she will just be really really angry at the world and fall asleep eventually anyway. If her body is tired, and she's asking for a nap. Put her in the carrier/stroller and let her nap while you go about your day.
True story, our daughter fell asleep as we got to Disneyworld for their last night of Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party that we had specially bought tickets for.
Instead of trying to keep her up, we let her rest and take a little nap, enjoyed that special time of just my husband and I exploring and soaking it all in on a special date.
When she woke up, she was in a great mood and ready to party! Because she wasn't tired, hungry, or overstimulated, she could fully take it all in - the decorations, the characters, the fireworks, the magic, and it is one of our very most precious memories as a family.
***
BUT the key is also to still go with the flow and slowly adjust to the new time zone. As much as you can, try to work them towards acclimatizing.
If it's morning and you have something planned, go ahead and take her out. Eat breakfast at breakfast time, etc. Visit family, go out to the park, sight see. Be flexible but don't let jet lag limit you. Do whatever it is that you were wanting to do but just build in time and grace for you both to adjust.
***
Traveling with little ones is always an adventure but also what an incredible time together. To be able to introduce all these new cultures and experiences and to be there for so many of their firsts. Our daughter will grow up calling many places home and it is both a privilege and sometimes hard but also remember that half the battle is perception - are you going into it saying bring on the crazy or are you dreading expecting the absolute worst?
***
Glass half full, you got this, mama!

Kungfu Benji brings his Ma along for a day at work in the Taiwan Entertainment Industry. From getting the hair done to before show dinner and right into the studio of a big television company, I take her through all the motions of the business. In many ways it's because of her that I am an entertainer, she wanted to be one back in the USA, however she ended up being a nurse in order to fulfill the practical needs of day to day life. As her son I found a way to make her dream a reality in my life, so taking her along for the ride is my pleasure. If your interested in seeing the whole variety show I took part in see link below .
