So the expression 1⃣“everything but/except the kitchen sink” is a humorous expression meaning “a great variety, or almost anything you can imagine.” Ex: That hardware store sells everything but the kitchen sink. The phrase can also mean “a much larger number of things than necessary. Ex: We were just going on a three-day trip, but Greg insisted on packing everything but the kitchen sink.
如果有人跟你說，有個網站除了廚房水槽之外什麼都賣，就表示賣的東西很多，是吧？所以 everything but/except the kitchen sink 這個幽默說法，就是表達「種類繁多、幾乎什麼都有」的意思：That hardware store sells everything but the kitchen sink.（你可以在那家五金行買到任何你想像得到的東西。）此外，這個片語也可以指「一大堆非必要的東西」，如：We were just going on a three-day trip, but Greg insisted on packing everything but the kitchen sink. （我們只是要去三天的小旅行，但是葛瑞格卻堅持帶上大堆不必要的東西。）
If you’ve ever soaked dirty dishes in the kitchen sink, you may have noticed that the water becomes dull and murky. But what does 2⃣ “dull as dishwater” mean? It means “really dull or boring.” Ex: The conversation at the dinner table was dull as dishwater.
