查了一下他才發現一些好玩的事情,原來是每年都在喊空,那喊到有什麼好稀奇的,猴子都知道幾年會走熊一次。

【重點摘要】補充抗氧化劑會抵消掉運動訓練對於肌肉適應的效果以及運動對於慢性疾病的健康效應。
傳統對於補充抗氧化劑可能對於運動有益的假設:激烈運動後會產生大量的自由基(free radical):活性氧物質(reactive oxygen species, ROS)及活性氮(reactive nitrogen species, RNS),自由基的堆積會破壞細胞膜和DNA,削弱肌肉功能,加速疲勞,又稱為氧化傷害。因此認為補充具抗氧化能力之補充劑可能具有保護作用抵消運動誘導產生的氧化損傷和加快運動後恢復速度。
然而近幾年的研究顯示補充抗氧化劑對於恢復運動性能沒有影響或反而會降低身體在訓練過程的肌肉適應效率(Nikolaidis et al., 2012; Gomez-Cabrera et al., 2012)。舉例,一個隨機分組、安慰劑對照研究針對60~81歲的老年男性進行12週的肌力訓練,比較兩組間肌肉質量的變化,結果安慰劑組總瘦體組織增加3.9%比抗氧化劑組1.4%增加較多(ρ= 0.04)(Bjørnsen, T.,2015)。
雖然抗氧化劑的補充減少了運動後的氧化壓力,但因為訓練後的肌肉適應生長需要氧化壓力和發炎反應的刺激,所以抗氧化劑的補充反而阻止了訓練適應(見圖示)。進一步的研究顯示,運動本身會透過增強人體內抗氧化酵素如穀胱甘肽過氧化物酶(glutathione peroxidase)和超氧化物歧化酶(superoxide dismutase)的作用增加肌肉的氧化能力(Draeger et al., 2014)。換言之,身體適應通過增加自身的抗氧化防禦系統行使。因此,服用補充劑不會提供任何進一步的益處。

對於補充抗氧化劑弊多於利的結論,小編補充一些文獻的總結,一篇整合了78個隨機臨床試驗的系統綜述得出的結論是〝補充高劑量抗氧化劑並不能降低罹患心血管疾病的風險,實際上更可能是有害的〞(Bjelakovic et al.,2012)。Gomez-Cabrera等人在2012年發表的評論中更列舉許多補充抗氧化劑對健康有不利影響的證據,如β-胡蘿蔔素、維生素A和維生素E補充劑似乎增加死亡風險;而心血管疾病和糖尿病的患者長期補充維生素E可能會增加心臟衰竭的風險;在高血壓患者實施運動訓練計畫時補充維生素C、E和α硫辛酸,反而使血壓增加並抑制了原本有氧運動訓練時因血流量增大而伴隨的血管擴張(血管擴張對降血壓有幫助);補充抗氧化劑維生素C和E阻礙了運動訓練帶來的改善胰島素敏感性(和糖尿病有關)和內生性抗氧化防禦系統的好處。
結論:所以抗氧化劑需不需要吃呢?基本上可以不用。但是自由基這東西雖然有助於肌肉適應卻不是多多益善,當產生量遠超過身體的抗氧化酵素能消化的範圍,仍然會帶來毒性。那麼誰需要吃、什麼時候吃?目前的建議是只有選手們在高強度的比賽期間,賽間恢復時間很短的時候才建議使用。

I used to be extremely self conscious about my calves because they appear bulky and they are the muscles we tend to neglect as well. Over the years, I've incorporate a lot more jump-based exercises which helped to improve the appearance of my calves, making them long and lean.
