Today's Japanuary theme is Japanese curry. Strictly speaking (as I understand it), katsu curry is meat, usually pork or chicken, in panko breadcrumbs (that's the katsu) with Japanese curry sauce. Katsu's become a bit of a buzzword in the UK, and all the food manufacturers seem to want to get in on it (including katsu chicken nuggets at McDonalds!), without always fully understanding what katsu really means. This has lead to all kinds of fusion foods - here are some I've spotted. A lot of these aren't really "katsu" - does that matter? Is it good that people are enjoying more Japanese foods beyond sushi and ramen? What do you think?
Today's Japanese Food at Home day over on Instagram for Japanuary. Here are some Japanese condiments I enjoy adding to rice bowl dishes. The spicy yuzu paste is 100% recommended, and the pink tube is pickled plum flavour - really sour and strong if you're a fan of ume!
