The Walking Techniques of Yuichirou Miura by Yuichirou Miura and Gota Miura
You might have thought that walking, as simple as it may seem, requires no skills, but your perception may change after reading this book.
This book is written by Yuichirou Miura and his son Gota Miura. Yuichirou conquered Everest at the age of 70, 75 and 80 and built a record for the oldest person to reach the summit. As brought out in the book, with determination, perseverance and proper training, age isn’t an obstacle to mountaineering.
Yuichirou used to be a skier when he was young, having skied down the highest mountains of the seven continents. Yet as he soared to fame and success, he started to lose self-discipline and indulged in entertainment, resulting in a body weight that he himself couldn’t even accept. Seeing his ageing father and young son spare no effort in skiing, he felt ashamed and was determined to change. He decided to start from the basics—training on ground to build a strong physique so that he could reach the summit of Mount Everest one day.
The first half of this book features Yuichirou’s training experience while the second half are training instructions given by his son. What’s best about walking is that it’s simple and anyone can start training anytime and anywhere, be it on the ground or on stairs. If you would like to stay fit and healthy by walking or climbing stairs, I’m sure this book will give you some insight into the exercise.
