If you watch the American news, you may hear people talking about red states and blue states. But do you know what these terms mean?
如果你有看美國新聞，你大概會聽到有人用紅州跟藍州這兩個詞。但你知道是什麼意思嗎？🤔
In this case, red stands for Republican and blue for Democrat. So a red state is one where most people vote Republican, and a blue state is one where most people vote Democrat.
But it’s not just about how people vote—it’s also about culture. Because Republicans are usually more conservative, and Democrats more liberal, red states are seen as more conservative and traditional, and blue states as places where people are more liberal in their thinking.
As the 2020 presidential election approaches, you’ll see lots of maps on the news showing red and blue states. But if you look closely, you’ll also see a few purple states. These are swing states, where people vote mostly Republican in some elections, and Democrat in others. Why purple? Because purple is a mix of red and blue!
