As unrest in Hong Kong spills over into widespread protests in the street, Taiwan’s Ministry of Education says it will lift the cap on the number of students from Hong Kong who can study in Taiwan. Applications for higher education in Taiwan from Hong Kong citizens have increased by at least 60% in 2020 compared to last year. And with many universities still accepting applications, that number is expected to go up even further in the coming months, as young people in Hong Kong are drawn to the freedom and safety of Taiwanese life.
香港爆發反送中事件後，港生申請來台念大學暴增六成多，如今港版國安法引發更多爭議，恐怕人數會更多。根據海外聯招會最新統計，今年港生聯招報名人數，比去年大增62%，若再算上各校獨招，人數將創新高。而教育部也擬定開放港澳生來台，外加名額可不受1%上限，方便港生安心來台就學。
