【隱藏的善良與惡毒】

《Old Fisherman》是一幅描繪老漁夫的畫，如果細心觀看，會發現畫家畫的不單是人像，而是人性。

這幅畫出自匈牙利畫家蒂華達．貢茨卡．貢特瓦里之手，作品的顏色以灰黑與灰藍為主調，漁夫的額頭皮膚粗糙不平，滿載風霜，看起來臉部左右似乎不對稱，左邊比較明亮，右邊則陰暗一點。賞畫者可能會認為，畫家是想突出漁夫的歷經勞苦的一生，所以才將他的臉畫得如此不對稱——但如果這樣想的話，就會錯過此畫的精要了。

只要將畫的左邊複製對照成右邊，同時將右邊複製對照成左邊，便能夠得出驚人發現──這其實是兩張完全不同的臉，也是兩幅氣氛完全不一的作品！當明亮的臉出現時，老漁夫戴着帽子雙手合十，嚴肅地凝望着，背後是一片寧靜的海洋，氣氛莊嚴穩重。但當右邊的部份複制對照到左邊後，老漁夫竟變成魔鬼，臉部顏色極度陰沉，只有嘴巴部份透出詭異的光，連帽子也變成了魔鬼的角，看上去他像是坐在棺材中，而背景亦變成狂風暴浪，氣氛不安。如此別出心裁的構圖，正好道出畫家對人性的體會。

畫家貢特瓦里是匈牙利最著名的畫家之一，他原本是一名藥劑師，後來卻突然轉行投身繪畫行業，他不屬於任何門派，但亦有評論認為他的作品近於後印象派或表現主義。相比起印象派側向描寫場境的美態，後印象派更強調作者的主觀感情，梵高便是當中的代表畫家；而表現主義則更着重表達個人情感和思想，之前曾介紹愛德華．孟克（Edvard Munch）的《吶喊》（The Scream）便是經典例子。

【名畫背後的火山爆發異象】

挪威畫家愛德華．孟克（Edvard Munch）這幅《吶喊》（The Scream），相信大家都不陌生，那麼你知道它傳遞出什麼訊息嗎？我們不難從畫中感受到畫者的焦慮，它也被視為現代人對存在焦慮的表現。不過，血橙色的背景卻不一定單純表達主觀情緒。

他曾在日記寫道：「我跟兩個朋友一起迎着落日散步──突然間，天空變得血紅──我停下腳步，感到疲累不堪，靠着欄桿──在藍黑色的峽灣和城市之上，滿天都是血紅和火舌──我的朋友繼續前進，我則站在原地焦慮得發抖──我感覺到大自然傳來一鼓無盡的吶喊。」

畫面中有之所以「滿天都是血紅和火舌」，可能受到1883年印尼喀拉喀托（Krakatoa）火山爆發的影響。這場火山爆發異常劇烈，造成超過36,000人死亡，3分2個喀拉喀托島崩毀，噴湧而出的火山灰沖上50公里高的平流層，更在赤道上空停留10多天，折射出藍綠色的太陽、血紅色的夕陽，微粒在數個月後彌漫世界各地，風雲變色的異象亦遍及全球，造成孟克見到的異象。
