Growing up as a girl, I remember the things adults said to me ALL THE TIME.
"Girls must sit properly, cannot shake your legs, walk must have posture, eat must have manners"
"You are a girl you must learn and help with housework if not next time nobody wanna marry you"
"You everyday go playground play like sam-seng-po (tomboy) later you get so tanned no boys like you!"
Did all that affect me? Probably a little. I’m glad as I matured, I managed to form a clearer picture of who I am and who I want to be – A better person than who I was before, always.
With time and much self-reflection, I grew up to be a strong woman who can make independent decisions against all odds. Whatever i'm going through, i understand that only i know myself best, and becox of that, only i know what's best for myself.
It doesn't matter how others think you should behave. So long as you learn manners, have good moral principles, don't hurt others, and happy you're really doing more than what's enough. That's how i see it at least.
That's exactly what i teach Meredith. I expose her to all sorts of play-pretend, teacher Meredith can teach and nurture her soft toy friends, handyman Meredith can fix anything in the house with her plastic hammer, athletic Meredith can kick ball, do a 15 metre sprint and do 10 jumping frogs. Princess Meredith loves her makeup, cape and bling bling accessories, topped with a pair of sunglasses and a handbag 😂 Chef Meredith can bake yummy fudge brownies and cookies. Mummy Meredith can nurse her soft toy babies to sleep, feed them and change their diapers 😂
I hope i'd never make her feel like i keep her in a box, where she has no space to spread her wings just becox "A girl must be this, a girl must be that" A girl can be ANYTHING she puts her heart to be 😊
