I’M NOT A SUSHI PRO, just sharing. Omakase post for starters (in KL):
I didn’t like raw seafood until I was 21 and @mr_darcy re-introduced to me and all hell broke loose ❤️🍣
Always call in to book (preferably counter seats if you’re a first-timer so you get to interact with the chef and learn more bout the food you’re eating). Don’t be shy, they are always happy to guide you.
Pic 1: Oribe - biased or not, I’m not sure. Oribe will always have a place in my heart for sushi/omakase. It’s the first place I TRULY tried to enjoy raw fish. I usually go for mino set 13pcs of sushi as I prefer sushi over special dishes. Price is reasonable for its quality. Nao-San is very friendly.
Pic 2: Hanaya - the portion is super worth the price, I’d say value over experience 💯 great for first timer.
Pic 3: Kazu - only tried lunch, it’s decent.
Pic 4-6: Sushi Takumi - new sushi place I tried last week, I’d say it needs more time and practice to reach optimum performance. Decent experience.
Sushi Ori - Ori-San is the first chef who served me proper omakase since day one. He pretty much “defined” my taste for sushi.
Hinata - the OG in KL, gotta try at least once.
Edju - mostly marinated, I recommend for eaters who like a “heavier” taste.
Sushi Ryu - fresh ingredients and produces.
Taka - portion is small imo but still damn good experience.

Apparently, even【Sushi Taka 鮨 孝】uses Bluefin Tuna supplied by the reputed Yamayuki from Toyosu, just like its Sushi Saito siblings. Even counting in the different tuna gradings, the Chutoro & Otoro this night performed well with both a slightly iron meaty taste and also right amount of oiliness.. The Anago 穴子 with Tsume was also fluffy yet marbled, it is now shipped in without vacuum compression which helps a lot with its texture. Last but not least, the Sushi Sets are only HKD $228, $328 & $468 ~ and u can order Take Away to carry on board too. Menu attached!

Slight catch here is that Sushi Taka at airport does not provide any Kohada 小肌 or Tamago Egg despite doing Tokyo Edomae style sushi, albeit they still do the famous Futomaki 太巻き. It is understandable, due to both airport customers demographic & also kitchen space equipment available. Wished this shop was outside & easily accessible anyday 😜😍 @ Sushi Taka
