Due to the Chinese #LCD industry’s aggressive expansion and the mass production at Gen 10.5 fabs in China, once-dominant Korean manufacturers are losing ground in the fight for LCD quality, let alone quantity, in which China’s superiority is ever increasing.
#Samsung stopped manufacturing LCD laptop panels 3 years ago, while now struggling with monitor/TV #panels. This, plus Samsung’s competitive advantage in small-size #OLED, means Samsung is right to cut its losses in LCD and invest in small- and mid-size OLED panels.
However, as Samsung will continue to manufacturer mid- and large-size #QD_OLED panels, shuttering its LCD fabs also means losing out on leverage in mainstream products. This will lead to decreased market flexibility as Samsung promotes QD OLED panels later on.
