Effortless Excellence
“It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom one hundred twenty satraps, who should be throughout the whole kingdom; and over them three presidents, of whom Daniel was one; that these satraps might give account to them, and that the king should have no damage. Then this Daniel was distinguished above the presidents and the satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm. When you’re up against the best of the best, don’t even set your eyes on them. Comparison is toxic and it just stirs up the flesh to use ungodly ways to get ahead.
Daniel was excellent not because he tried to be, but it was God’s blessing and power working in him. Daniel’s secret was that he had a close relationship with God, praying and meditating on the Scriptures every day. The benefits of these spiritual activities were tangibly visible in his daily life.
Keep your eyes on the Lord Jesus and receive His grace for your work and in whatever you do. Pray at all times; receive God’s word and meditate on it whenever you can. As you enjoy these, believe that God is supplying good ideas, necessary connections, technical ability, and wisdom that you need to excel.
