突然間，卡啦碎裂聲。

『完了！』我驚呼。

『喔不！我媽媽的眼鏡！』黛拉尖叫。

『對不起！我真的真的真的很對不起。我感到抱歉…』我看著碎掉的眼鏡。

『我不管了，我才不想管妳們那隻奇怪又愚蠢的兔子。』黛拉怒氣衝天。

『但…』凱蒂想再請求黛拉。

『滾出我的房子！』黛拉對我大吼。

我跑了出去，凱蒂抱回了兔子慢吞吞地隨後跟上。

『黛拉的反應讓我覺得我是個糟糕的孩子！』我頹喪至極。

『現在我們該怎麼辦？』凱蒂也難過起來。

我想到了一個好法子，我告訴凱蒂：『我們應該修好黛拉的眼鏡，然後她就會原諒我們，也會幫忙救兔子。』

『這點子太棒了，我們就這麼做。但我們要如何拿到眼鏡呢？』

『她現在正在氣頭上，所以我們應該要在沒人看見我們的時候進去。』

『妳是說偷偷溜進去？』

『我也不知道好不好？』

『我們應該試試看，如果行不通，我們再想其他方法。』凱蒂贊成。

『好！就這麼辦！』我回應。

午夜漆黑一片，夜盲中天邊的月亮出現，雖然它不是太陽，卻是我們唯一能看到的光，如此閃耀。

凱蒂握著蠟燭，我捧著一堆衣服。那些衣服是為了放在鞋底下，避免腳步聲被聽到。

我們到了黛拉那帳篷小屋，黛拉正在閱讀她的動物書籍。黛拉一心想幫助動物們，因為她的母親過世了，她曾是一名著名的獸醫。

凱蒂和我靜悄悄地走進去，那副破碎的眼鏡正放在書桌上，我試圖抓住它，但是距離太遠，手觸及不到。於是我脫下鞋子，或許赤腳可以幫助我輕鬆抓住它，依舊沒成功。我只好去了拿了一根棍子來，幸運地24分鐘後，我拿到了那副破碎的眼鏡。

凱蒂給我一陣無聲的鼓掌，頓時我覺得自己像個英雄。

"Crack!" Suddenly, there was a cracking sound.

"Oops!" I said.

"Oh, no! My mom's glasses! " Della screamed.

"I am sorry! I'm really really sorry. I feel so bad..." I looked at the broken glasses.

"I don't care, I am not going to help that weird dumb bunny". Della was so mad.

"But..." Katie wanted to ask Della again.

"Get out of my house! Della yelled at me.

I ran out, and Katie took the bunny back and went out slowly.

"Della make me feel like I am a bad kid!

"I am extremely depressed.

"What do we do now? Katie said sadly.

Then I had an idea.

"We should fix Della's glasses, and then she will forgive us and also help the bunny. "

"What a great idea, we should do that. But then how do we get the glasses?"

"She already really mad, so we should go inside with no one can see us. "

"You mean sneaking in? "

"I don't know if it's OK? "

"We should do that If that doesn't work, then let's do something else to go in, Okay?" Katie said.

"Okay. " I said.

It was dark at the midnight, and the moon was out in the blind light but it wasn't like the sun but it shining so much because it's the only light we see. Katie grabbed the candle and I had a bunch of clothes so we could put them in the bottom of the shoes. The walking noise will not be heard.

We went to the little tent, Della was reading her animal books. Della wants to help animals very much, because her mom died and she was a famous vet.

Katie and I was walking in and we saw the broken glasses were on the desk. I tried to grab it, but it was a bit too far to reach. So I took off my shoes, maybe I could grab it with bare feet, but it still didn't work. I went to get a stick. Luckily, 24 minutes later, I got the broken glasses.

Katie gave me a quiet clap. I feel like a hero.

アメリカでは週明け、会社や学校に行くと「How was your weekend?」と週末の出来事について同僚や友達から聞かれることがよくあります。そんな時、どのように返事をしたらよいか分からず、「It was good」だけで簡単に会話を終わらせてしまう人も多いかもしれませんが、週末の話は会話を広げるチャンスでもあるので、ぜひ今回ご紹介する表現を使ってネイティブとの会話をもっと楽しんでみてください。

1) Stay in
→「家にいる」
--------------------------------------------------
　
この表現は、「外出をしない」や「家にいる」を表す口語的な表現です。例えば、友達にカラオケに誘われたが、疲れ気味のため家でゆっくりしたいと言いたい場合は「I’m a pretty tired today. I’m going to stay in.（結構疲れているので家にいます。）」という具合に使うことができます。
　
✔Stay homeも同じ意味合いを持つが、Stay inの方が口語的な響きがある。
　
＜例文＞
　
I think I'm going to stay in tonight. I need to wake up early tomorrow.
（今夜は家でゆっくりするよ。明日、早く起きないといけないから。）
　
I usually stay in on the weekends and watch movies.
（週末は普段、家で映画を見ています。）
　
I didn't do much over the weekend. I just stayed in and cleaned the house.

→「出掛ける」

Go outは、何か楽しいことをする意味を込めて「家から出掛ける」と表現する際によく使われる定番フレーズです。一般的にはレストランやバー、イベントなど人が集まる社交行事に参加するニュアンスが含まれます。
　
✔「今夜、出掛けようよ！」と誘う場合、「Let’s go out tonight!」と表現する。
　
＜例文＞
　
Do you want to go out tonight? Let's check out that new restaurant that just opened up.
（今夜、出掛けない？最近オープンしたあの新しいレストランに行って見ようよ。）
　
I'm going to go out and have a drink with Dave tonight.
（今夜はデーブと一緒に飲みに行くよ。）
　
I went out with my friends last night. We stayed out pretty late.
（昨晩は友達と結構遅くまで出掛けてました。）

3) Sleep in
→「遅くまで寝る」

普段は早起きしているが、週末や祝日など休日に遅くまで寝ている事を「Sleep in」と表します。「遅く」を「Late」と訳して「Sleep late」とついつい言ってしまいがちですが、「Sleep late」は「遅く寝る（就寝する時間が遅い）」を意味するので気をつけましょう。
　
✔「◯◯時まで寝る」→「Sleep in until ____ o’clock」
　
＜例文＞
　
I usually sleep in on the weekends.
（週末は普段遅くまで寝ています。）
　
I slept in until 11 o'clock today.
（今日は11時まで寝てました。）
　
You should sleep in tomorrow and catch up on sleep.
（明日は遅くまでゆっくり寝て、睡眠不足を取り戻した方がいいよ。）

4) Visit one's parents
→「実家に帰る」

英語では日本語のように「実家」を一言で表す言葉がなく、状況に応じて表現の仕方が異なります。例えば、大学生であれば「I’m going home this weekend.」と言うだけで、「home」＝「実家」となるため、「実家に戻る」と解釈できます。
しかし、家族持ちの人、または自立している大人が「I’m going home this weekend.」と言うと「home」は「実家」ではなく、「自宅」と解釈されてしまうため混乱を招きます。その場合、英語では「visit one’s parents（親に会いに行く）」という表現を使うのが最も自然で、「I’m going to visit my parents this weekend（今週末、実家に帰ります）」と表現します。
　
✔その他、「Go home and see one’s parents」も「実家に帰る」を意味する。日常会話では「home」を省いて、「Go and see one’s parents」と言うこともよくある。
　
＜例文＞
　
I visited my parents last weekend.
（先週末は実家に帰りました。）
　
I'm going to go home and see my parents tomorrow. It's my mom's birthday.
（明日、実家に帰ります。母の誕生日なんです。）
　
I haven't been home in about a year. I've been busy with school.
（１年くらい実家に戻ってないよ。学校が忙しくてね。）

5) Out of town
→「町を離れる / 他の町に行く」

この表現は、旅行や結婚式、家族や親戚に会いに行くなど、自分が住んでいる町から違う町に行く時に使われる表現です。基本的に、短期間「町を離れる」ニュアンスがあります。具体的にどこへ行くかと伝える代わりに、漠然と「町を離れてどこかへ行く」と言う感じになります。
　
＜例文＞
　
I'm going to be out of town this weekend.
（今週末は町を離れます。）
　
She's out of town. She's supposed to be back next week.
（彼女は町を離れていますが、来週、戻ってくるはずです。）
　
Are you going to be out of town this week? Where are you going?
