Matah Ati is a must-watch "colossal" Javanese Dance Opera featuring 77 top professional performers onstage, in a gripping story of passion, loss and courage, performed to mesmerising Javanese music, with breathtaking costumes, props and state-of-the-art stage design.
"Tiji Tibeh, Mati Siji, Mati Kabeh…"
For when one is gone, the others are also gone; where one is blessed, the others are blessed as well……
Such are the words of vow by the valiant soldiers of Raden Mas Said, the first King of Java. In love as in war, the words ring true. Matah Ati takes audiences on an epic journey back in time to 17th century Java. Through operatic Javanese song and music combined with a contemporary adaptation of Surakartan-Javanese classical dance style, this tale of victory in love and war is told through the life story of central character Rubiah, a female war hero of the 40-woman army which fought during the time of the Dutch invasion and the reign of the Mangkunegara Kingdom in Indonesia
Matah Ati is a tribute to the history and sacred artistry of the Javanese, in a performance that is simultaneously theatrical in expression yet meditative in tone.
The cast is made up of top professional choreographers and dancers who are undergraduates, graduates and even PhD holders from Solo’s Indonesian Institute for the Arts (Institut Seni Indonesia) and Indonesia's best creative and production team.
Matah Ati premiered at the Esplanade Theatre in Singapore to rave reviews, thunderous applause and standing ovations, and in special performances at the Mangkunegaran Palace in Solo, as well as in Jakarta. Now, for the first time in Malaysia, Enfiniti Vision Media, Malaysia’s premier content creation and multimedia production company is proud to be the local presenter of this stunning production.
I have heard nothing but amazing things since Matah Ati performed in Singapore, and since then I have been in discussions with Atilah and her team to plan for a season in Kuala Lumpur. Enfiniti believes in staging world-class top quality shows and is very proud to be associated with Indonesia's most spectacular production as the local organiser. Matah Ati marks the beginning of many other international collaborations for Enfiniti, aside from producing our own shows every year.
