Staying home doesn't mean that we can't stay connected with our family and friends.
When we heard PM Lee urging Singaporeans to write letters to the people we care about, the kids and I welcomed that thought and sprang into action. It's been long since we had a Creativity 521 session and I am thankful that we found an opportunity to sit down, craft and bond at the same time.
Right, we couldn't help but snack too since it was tea time and the kids had Froot Loops and Frosties, two of our all-time favourite cereals from @kelloggssingapore. In wanting to encourage the kids to keep writing throughout the year and not make it a one-off effort, we decided to create a DIY mailbox using the 300g Frosties cereal box.
Art materials we used include red paper, double sided tape, brads, printed letters, doily and a floral embellishment. Check out how our cereal-turned-mail-box looks in the end. We even added a flag at the side which can be raised when there are new posts. Cute, right?
Both of the girls decided that their very first letter would go to.... Papa! I guess they really miss him and their gesture speaks volumes of their love. Then they proceeded to write notes and cards for their cousins and friends too. Even Asher joined in the fun and started writing and sketching away. Good job, kids!
We had a great afternoon and it was a wonderful way to teach the kids that staying home doesn't mean we can't stay in touch with our loved ones. No matter how advanced technology gets, there is something heartfelt about a handwritten letter that can never be replaced. We will send out these letters soon and I hope the kids will continue to use writing as a way to show their ❤.
Yay! Till our next mum-and-kids craft session!
