Mindfulness. What exactly is mindfulness and how often do you really practice it? I’m going to be honest with you. I’ve been hearing this term a lot these days, but it never really resonated until a recent podcast interview with Lane Kennedy. She simply said, it’s just about being present, there is nothing else on my mind right now except for you and me.
I immediately thought about how important that was for us as parents for our kids. How often do we give our children our full undivided attention without the distraction of our cellphones, our worries, our bills, our meal prep, our weight, our work. How often can we fully tune out all of our other thoughts and give our children all that they deserve. Our minds.
With all of the isolation and social distancing due to Covid, it was nice that through that Zoom call, Lane and I took a moment to turn everything off, look at each other eye to eye, and wholeheartedly engaged in a conversation. Then she said, “Once you practice mindfulness it will create a ripple effect and that in itself could really change the world.”

FIRSTLY? We are TERRIBLY sorry that the FIRST 8 minutes of audio was GONE! Omg. That's just horrible. Achilles and I were going on and on. I do apolog...

ref: https://medium.com/srivatsan-sridharan/cracking-the-engineering-manager-interview-faqs-94dcfdf38ef
How important are the technical interviews in the EM interview loop?
Do I need to practice Leetcode to crack the coding rounds?
What if I don’t have relevant experiences to answer situational or experience based questions?
What if I’ve never had to let go of someone from my team?
How much detail should I go into when talking about a situation?
When asked about my weaknesses as a manager, what should I say?
How do I answer the question — what is your management philosophy?
What are some failure modes or traps to watch out for?
How important are the technical interviews in the EM interview loop?
Do I need to practice Leetcode to crack the coding rounds?
What if I don’t have relevant experiences to answer situational or experience based questions?
What if I’ve never had to let go of someone from my team?

HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR YOGA JOB INTERVIEW? - if you’re asking yourself the same question, 👀 along:
1️⃣- Have your photos taken. Other industries might not need a photo but in the field of yoga, almost every employer would ask for a photo to see how your practice is. So get some photos taken - professionally if possible.
2️⃣ - Have your bio ready. This should include how many and what trainings you have received. Highlight who your lead trainers were too. If possible, maybe ask your lead trainer to write a few comments (like a note of recommendation) about you. Highlight anything in the past that might make you a great hire too. If you're great with communicating with others, make sure you mention it.
3️⃣ - Research on the studio - Find out what the studio is; its background. Check out its website and IG, see what they offer and what is missing in their service. And see if you could provide what they need. If you know someone who's a member there, talk to them to get their perspective as a member. See what's working and what's not.
4️⃣ - Be yourself. At the interview, be honest and authentic. Employers are more interested in your personality and in seeing if you're a team player, rather than hoping you are the king of #handstand. A good interview is basically a good conversation. If this is your first interview, don't ask about the money right away. You should always ask questions and say thank you when you leave. Prepare a short sequence to demonstrate your teaching skills and keep the sequence simple. You don’t have to put your legs behind your head to teach a yoga class.
5️⃣- Leave a thank you note. Always say thank you after the interview. If you get the job, condragulations! If not, thank them again and ask for feedback. Find out how you could improve yourself and let them know that you are willing to work on those things.
These are my 5 tips on how to prepare for an interview and, most importantly, be reconsidered if you don't get the job right away. What do you guys think? Leave a comment if you have questions or got other useful tips too.
🏷 it or forward to someone if you find it useful 🙏🏼

FIRSTLY? We are TERRIBLY sorry that the FIRST 8 minutes of audio was GONE! Omg. That's just horrible. Achilles and I were going on and on. I do apologise on our LIVE end.
Truth be told, I wasn't 100% that day. I was actually down with fever due to mastitis but as the saying goes, "the show must go on" and I was pretty excited to be talking to my guest. Azmi had to man the fort with a cranky baby at the back (our helper is stuck in her hometown due to the unfortunate floods, so we told her to settle matters. And then MCO 2.0 took place. So, we are WFH-livestreaming with 4 young kids all at home and a very sick me. Go figure! LOL)
Anyway, here was my first part of what I was (trying to say)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Covid-19 pandemic caused a projected loss of 195 million jobs, interruptions to education and a disproportionate impact on vulnerable groups. The nature of work and careers is changing fast. I’ve heard some say that it’s not the virus that scares them, but the uncertainties that lies ahead.
2020 has given employers and companies reshaped their hiring practices while employees rapidly had to adapt, upskill and reskill, as well as practice resiliency and hone on their entrepreneurial mindsets ,to respond to the reality of either a salary cut or worst, layoffs or to close their business due to the downturn.
As we enter into our 2nd week of 2021, with the uncertainties still looming, I’m pretty sure many of you are keen to know how others have strived despite the challenges. So today, I’m delighted to speak to Achilles Sureen, Senior Lead – Culture & Employee Engagement, AirAsia to share how he managed to fly by, when aviation was hit badly, in 2020.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you Achilles for being such an inspiration. I learnt so much from our short 'lunch date'. I hope mum and my dad meets each other and can have a glass of wine to celebrate your wonderfulness.
Thanks Angelica and JobStreet Malaysia for arranging this interview. Can't wait for the next one with Ramesh!
