You better go back home earlier tonight as hungry ghosts wander all around Hong Kong TODAY!

In the Chinese society, the seventh month in the lunar calendar is considered as "Ghost month". The gates of hell open and restless spirits roam the world. Today is the 14th day of the seventh lunar month, also known as the Hungry Ghost Festival 盂蘭節. People appease the angry ghost after the ghost have wander the earth for two weeks. You will find locals burning paper offerings in Tin can on the roadsides everywhere in these few weeks. Food like Tofu, and bean sprout, which are easy to chew, will also be offered to make sure the ghost are not hungry so that they will not get angry. (You can buy a bowl of food for the ghosts including Tofu, bean sprout and rice in the wet market)
We also avoid water activities (Older generation says the water ghosts will pull you down to the water) and going back home late.
You used to see huge ceremonies held around HK on the Ghost month. But many is still cancelled this year due to the strict social distancing rule. The photos here show you the ceremony held in 中區卅間街坊盂蘭會 Staunton street, Central in 2019.
There was one held in Sycamore Playground in Tai Kok Tsui this year (ended on 19/8). The Chinese Opera started at 6pm, so I decided to go back home earlier instead 😅
The Chinese opera is actually for the ghosts to watch such that they won’t wander around and cause trouble!

🔼About:大家中元節快樂喔 (?)
Today is Ghost Festival, aka Hungry Ghost Festival, in Taiwan. The seventh lunar month is traditionally regarded as Ghost Month. There’re so many taboo of this month, I think my mom won’t be happy if she knows I’ve visited an abandoned tunnel during the ghost month. Activities during the ghost month include making food offerings, burning incense, and burning ghost money. Urbex is definitely not included. Stay safe anyway.🌈

【幽冥教主 - 南無大願地藏王菩薩】
"Ms Lee, I’m wondering does it matter is d last day of seven month Can read bazi?"
Mintues after our consultation date was fixed, my client asked me her question.
My reply (updated in this post):
我怎麼會害你呢?
(Why would I harm you?)
害你不是等於害我自己嗎?
(Wouldn't that be harming myself too?)
If it is not suitable, I would not have arranged to meet you on that day.
In this year, the last day of the 7th month is also the holy birthday of 地藏王菩薩, also known as 幽冥教主.
農曆七月三十日 does not come by every year.
He is also a widely respected embodiment of filial piety in Buddhism.
If you recite His holy name on that day 108 times before we meet, you will be greatly blessed and protected on that day.
Recitiation of the Bodhisattva's name/mantra/sutra on His holy birthday increase our merits by a hundred fold.
My Shifu's recitation of the holy name of Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva:

.
There are certain activities that I would not recommend during the Hungry Ghosts' Festival - house moving, commencement of house renovation and door opening of a new unit etc.
But Destiny Analysis on that last day does not invite more energies of inauspiciousness into your Bazi.
Moreover our appointment is set in the daytime.
The most inappropriate things I hear about Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva include:
❎ We cannot worship Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva at home, or it will invite spirits into our houses.
❎ We cannot recite the name/mantra/sutra of Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva especially at night, or ghosts will gather around us.
I want to say...
Our parents send us to school at the age of 4 so that we can develop cognitive abilities and make sound judgements about the world we live in.
I have enshrined the Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva in my home. He has been on my altar for the past 12 years.
Before I leave home, I would always seek His blessing and protection for my work.
When my Grandmother passed away in 2006, during the 49 days, I recited 地藏菩薩本願經 (Sutra of the Fundamental Vows of Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva) for 49 times.
On her death anniversary every year since 2006, I would do one recitation of the 3 volumes of the sutra.
I am more prosperous than ever.
I have yet to see any ghost at home.
I have never encountered any strange sighting at home or outside, even when I am alone.
There are no unexplainable strange illness on me either.
And I'm not the only one. Shifu also worshipped Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva in his home for over 15 years.
Don't base your decision on hearsay and result in the spreading of untruths.
If you have made the effort to read 地藏經, you would know that worshipping the Bodhisattva and recitation of His name/mantra/sutra will evoke the holy protection from over a thousand devas.
