AIT and the Taiwan Ministry of Economic Affairs’ Bureau of Energy co-hosted the "Next Generation Power in Asia" energy conference on May 12-13. The two-day conference focused on solar power, wind power, and smart electricity grids, seeking to promote the increased use of renewable energy technologies in the region through greater international cooperation. AIT Director Christopher J. Marut joined Taiwan Minister of Economic Affairs John Deng in delivering opening remarks at the conference, which featured the participation of energy officials and experts from the United States, Taiwan, Burma, Cambodia, Laos, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam. U.S. Senior Official to APEC Robert Wang delivered the conference keynote address, emphasizing renewable energies' environmental, health, and regional stability benefits.
