Instagram became a social media just for posting and liking, and people don’t really read what you wrote or giving you any feedback even though this is what Instagram made for, but it just makes me tried about this social media and feeling the passion is gone.
Few days ago, I started to express or write in English. (Forgive me if my grammar is wrong haha! My grammas isn’t great🙈) I feel comfortable to write again, and feel good! Living and sharing in my own ways makes me happier! It doesn’t matter if anyone comments, I’m just happy that I nah be myself again!
Sometimes the Asian culture just makes me feel uneasy to be myself because you can’t just say whatever when people who you known or unknown are judging all the time. I’m sure they don’t mean it, and this is part of our culture. As I’m now in Taiwan, I’m trying my best to live without this culture.

รู้หรือไม่ว่า การใช้เหล็กเป็นโครงสร้างในทุกวันนี้ มีจุดเริ่มต้นมาจากชายที่มีชื่อว่า “แอนดรูว์ คาร์เนกี”
ในยุคนั้น เขาเป็นเจ้าของธุรกิจเหล็กและได้ก้าวขึ้นมาเป็นมหาเศรษฐีที่รวยที่สุดในประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา

แอนดรูว์ คาร์เนกี เกิดที่เมืองดันเฟิร์มลิน ประเทศสกอตแลนด์ สหราชอาณาจักร ในปี 1835
ในวัยเด็กเขาต้องใช้ชีวิตอย่างยากลำบาก เนื่องจากครอบครัวของเขานั้นมีฐานะยากจน
ครอบครัวของเขาก็ได้อพยพไปที่ประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา โดยคาร์เนกีต้องออกไปช่วยทำงานหาเงินตั้งแต่ยังเด็ก
เริ่มต้นจากการเป็นเด็กส่งเอกสารในบริษัทโทรเลขแห่งหนึ่งในเมืองพิตต์สเบิร์ก รัฐเพนซิลเวเนีย ประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา โดยได้รับค่าจ้าง 2.5 ดอลลาร์สหรัฐต่อสัปดาห์
โดยตลอดการทำงานเขาได้ทำตามคำแนะนำของลุงของเขา คือ
- การทำงานด้วยความตั้งใจ
- จดจำสถานที่ทางธุรกิจและบุคคลสำคัญ ในเมืองพิตต์สเบิร์ก ให้ได้ทั้งหมด
ด้วยวิธีนี้ทำให้เขาได้เลื่อนตำแหน่งและเติบโตอย่างรวดเร็ว พร้อมกับได้รู้จักคนมากมาย
จนกระทั่งวันหนึ่ง ความสามารถของเขา ก็ไปเตะตาของ ทอมัส สกอตต์ ผู้กุมบังเหียน The Pennsylvania Railroad บริษัทรถรางที่ใหญ่ที่สุดแห่งหนึ่งของสหรัฐอเมริกา ที่ได้ชวนคาร์เนกี ให้มาทำงานร่วมกัน
ซึ่งนี่ถือเป็นช่วงที่เขาได้สะสมประสบการณ์ล้ำค่า
โดยสิ่งที่ได้จากการทำงานร่วมกับ ทอมัส สกอตต์ มี 2 อย่างคือ
1. หน้าที่การงานที่เติบโต
ด้วยอุตสาหกรรมรถไฟที่กำลังโตและความสามารถในการทำงานของเขา
ทำให้ แอนดรูว์ คาร์เนกี ในวัย 24 ปี ได้เลื่อนตำแหน่งเป็นผู้ควบคุมรถไฟในทิศตะวันตก
ซึ่งก็ถือเป็นอาชีพที่มั่นคงในยุคนั้น
หากปรับค่าเงินเฟ้อแล้ว เขาได้รับเงินสูงถึง 43,000 ดอลลาร์สหรัฐต่อปี หรือราว 1,400,000 บาทต่อปีเลยทีเดียว
2. รู้จักการสะสมความมั่งคั่ง
แอนดรูว์ คาร์เนกี ได้รู้จักคำว่า การลงทุน โดยหุ้นตัวแรกที่เขาซื้อคือหุ้น Adams Express
ซึ่งซื้อตามคำแนะนำของ ทอมัส สกอตต์ นี่ถือเป็นจุดเริ่มต้นที่ทำให้เขาสนใจเรื่องการลงทุน
ด้วยหน้าที่การงานที่ก้าวหน้าควบคู่ไปกับการลงทุน ทำให้ความมั่งคั่งของ แอนดรูว์ คาร์เนกี ค่อย ๆ เพิ่มขึ้น
แล้ว แอนดรูว์ คาร์เนกี เริ่มธุรกิจของตัวเองตั้งแต่เมื่อไร ?
ในช่วงปี 1860 ถึง 1865 ซึ่งเป็นช่วงสงครามกลางเมืองในประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา
ทำให้มีความต้องการเหล็กเพื่อใช้ในการสร้างอุปกรณ์ และอาคารต่าง ๆ
เมื่อ แอนดรูว์ คาร์เนกี เห็นโอกาสตรงจุดนี้ ทำให้เขาตัดสินใจก่อตั้งโรงผลิตเหล็กขึ้นมา จนในปี 1865 ได้กลายมาเป็น “The Keystone Bridge Company” ซึ่งเป็นบริษัทที่รับสร้างสะพาน รางรถไฟ และโครงสร้างเหล็กสำหรับอาคาร
และภายหลังจากสงครามยุติลง เขาได้ออกจากบริษัท The Pennsylvania Railroad เพื่อมาโฟกัสกับธุรกิจเหล็กอย่างเต็มที่
ด้วยความสัมพันธ์ของเขากับ ทอมัส สกอตต์ ก็ได้ทำให้บริษัท The Keystone Bridge ของเขาได้รับการจ้างงานจากบริษัท The Pennsylvania Railroad อยู่เป็นประจำ
จุดเปลี่ยนครั้งสำคัญอีกครั้งของแอนดรูว์ คาร์เนกี เกิดขึ้นเมื่อปี 1867
เมื่อบริษัท Keystone Bridge ของแอนดรูว์ คาร์เนกี ได้รับมอบหมายงานจากบริษัท The Pennsylvania Railroad ให้สร้างสะพานเดินรถไฟเชื่อมระหว่างฝั่งตะวันตกกับตะวันออก
ซึ่งต้องข้ามแม่น้ำมิสซิสซิปปี ที่มีระยะทางในการข้ามคือ 1 ไมล์ หรือประมาณ 1.6 กิโลเมตร
ที่บอกว่าเป็นจุดเปลี่ยนสำคัญก็เพราะว่าที่ผ่านมา ยังไม่เคยมีใครทำสำเร็จมาก่อน..
โดยวัสดุที่เขาเลือกใช้ก็คือ “เหล็กกล้า” ซึ่งถือเป็นวัสดุที่แข็งแรงที่สุดในยุคนั้น
แต่ด้วยกระบวนการผลิตที่ยากจึงทำให้มีราคาที่แพงและการใช้งานก็ยังไม่ค่อยเป็นที่แพร่หลายสำหรับการใช้โครงสร้างขนาดใหญ่ ส่วนมากจะเป็นเพียงใช้ในการสร้างสิ่งของชิ้นเล็ก
แต่ด้วยคุณสมบัติความแข็งแรงของเหล็กกล้า แอนดรูว์ คาร์เนกี ก็ได้ตัดสินใจที่จะใช้วัสดุดังกล่าวสร้างสะพานขึ้นมา
ในช่วงเริ่มต้น การก่อสร้างเต็มไปด้วยความทุลักทุเล ทั้งเรื่องความยากในการสร้างและต้นทุนที่บานปลาย
แม้จะใช้เวลาในการสร้างนานถึง 4 ปี
แต่ในที่สุดเขาก็สามารถสร้างสะพานสำเร็จ ซึ่งปัจจุบันก็คือสะพาน “Eads Bridge”
และด้วยความสำเร็จนี้เอง ทำให้ธุรกิจเหล็กของ แอนดรูว์ คาร์เนกี เริ่มเป็นที่รู้จักอย่างกว้างขวาง
ทำให้บริษัทเดินรถไฟต่าง ๆ เริ่มเปลี่ยนมาใช้เหล็กในการทำรางมากขึ้น
อีกเหตุการณ์สำคัญที่ทำให้อาณาจักรเหล็กของเขาเติบโต คือ
ในช่วงปี 1870 เป็นช่วงฟื้นตัวหลังจากสงครามกลางเมืองในประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา
ผู้คนมากมายต่างเข้าไปหางานในเมืองใหญ่ เช่น ชิคาโกและนิวยอร์ก ทำให้เกิดการสร้างตึกระฟ้า และ อาคารต่าง ๆ มากมาย เป็นผลดีกับธุรกิจเหล็กของเขา เรียกได้ว่าตอนนั้นเป็นยุคที่รุ่งเรืองช่วงหนึ่งของเขาเลยก็ว่าได้ จนในปี 1892 เขาจึงได้มาก่อตั้ง “Carnegie Steel Company”
จนในปี 1901 เหตุการณ์ที่ทำให้เขาร่ำรวยขึ้นมากที่สุดได้เกิดขึ้น
เมื่อนายธนาคาร John Pierpont Morgan หรือผู้ก่อตั้งธนาคาร J.P. Morgan ที่เรารู้จักกันในปัจจุบัน ต้องการที่จะครองตลาดเหล็กในประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา โดยการซื้อบริษัทที่เกี่ยวข้องกับเหล็กให้ได้มากที่สุด
บริษัท Carnegie Steel ได้รับข้อเสนอสูงถึง 480 ล้านดอลลาร์สหรัฐ ซึ่งถือเป็นหนึ่งในดีลการซื้อกิจการที่มีมูลค่าสูงที่สุดในยุคนั้น
หลังจากที่ John Pierpont Morgan สามารถซื้อบริษัท Carnegie Steel และรวบรวมบริษัทเหล็กอื่น ๆ ได้ตามที่ต้องการแล้ว
เขาก็ได้นำบริษัทที่รวบรวมได้ในครั้งนี้มาก่อตั้งเป็นบริษัท United States Steel Corporation หรือที่เราเรียกกันว่า U.S. Steel ซึ่งการควบรวมดังกล่าวก็ได้กลายมาเป็นการก่อตั้งบริษัทที่มีมูลค่าสูงถึง 1,400 ล้านดอลลาร์สหรัฐ ขึ้นแท่นเป็นบริษัทพันล้านดอลลาร์สหรัฐแห่งแรกของโลก ซึ่งถ้าแปลงเป็นมูลค่าเงินปัจจุบันจะมีมูลค่าสูงถึง 43,600 ล้านดอลลาร์สหรัฐ เลยทีเดียว
นอกจากนี้ การขายกิจการของแอนดรูว์ คาร์เนกี ก็ได้ทำให้เขากลายมาเป็นหนึ่งในมหาเศรษฐีรวยที่สุดของโลก ต่อจากจอห์น ดี. ร็อกกีเฟลเลอร์ เจ้าของอาณาจักรน้ำมันในยุคเดียวกัน
ในตอนนั้น แอนดรูว์ คาร์เนกี มีทรัพย์สินอยู่ที่ 380 ล้านดอลลาร์สหรัฐ ซึ่งมูลค่าทรัพย์สินของเขาหลังปรับเงินเฟ้อมาถึงปัจจุบัน จะอยู่ที่ 372,000 ล้านดอลลาร์สหรัฐ หรือราว 12.2 ล้านล้านบาท ซึ่งเป็น 2 เท่าของเจฟฟ์ เบโซส มหาเศรษฐีรวยสุดในยุคนี้..
ที่น่าสนใจก็คือ เมื่อเดินทางมาถึงจุดสูงสุดของชีวิต แอนดรูว์ คาร์เนกี ไม่ได้เก็บความร่ำรวยไว้กับตัว
ในทางกลับกัน เขาก็ได้บริจาคทรัพย์สินเกือบทั้งหมดของตัวเองไปกับการทำการกุศลและบริจาค
โดยเงินบริจาคมหาศาลของเขาก็ได้กลายไปเป็นโครงการต่าง ๆ มากมาย เช่น
- ให้เงินสนับสนุนห้องสมุดในประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา อังกฤษ หรือแม้แต่ในแอฟริกาใต้
รวมแล้วมากถึง 3,000 แห่ง
- ตั้งกองทรัสต์เพื่อให้เงินสนับสนุนมหาวิทยาลัยอีกหลายแห่ง เช่น Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland
- นอกจากนั้นยังสร้าง Carnegie Institute of Technology และ Mellon Institute of Industrial Research ซึ่งภายหลังได้รวมกันเป็น Carnegie Mellon University
เขาได้ทำการกุศลและบริจาครวมกันเป็นมูลค่าประมาณ 350 ล้านดอลลาร์สหรัฐ ซึ่งคิดเป็น 90% ของมูลค่าสินทรัพย์ของเขาในตอนนั้นเลยทีเดียว จนในปี 1919 แอนดรูว์ คาร์เนกี ได้เสียชีวิตลงในวัย 83 ปี
เรื่องราวทั้งหมดนี้ก็ได้สะท้อนให้เห็นว่า ไม่ว่าเราจะมีต้นทุนชีวิตมาแบบไหน
เราก็สามารถประสบความสำเร็จได้เหมือนกัน
อย่างแอนดรูว์ คาร์เนกี ที่แม้จะเริ่มจากการเป็นผู้อพยพและต้องเริ่มทำงานหาเลี้ยงครอบครัวตั้งแต่เด็ก แต่เขาก็สามารถก้าวขึ้นมาเป็นเศรษฐีที่รวยที่สุดในประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกาได้
นอกจากเรื่องของต้นทุนชีวิตแล้ว ก็ยังมีเรื่องของการแบ่งปันต่อเพื่อนมนุษย์
ซึ่งแอนดรูว์ คาร์เนกี ก็ถือเป็นหนึ่งในเศรษฐีที่ถูกยกย่องว่าเป็นผู้ใจบุญ
จากการที่เขาได้บริจาคทรัพย์สินส่วนตัวให้กับผู้อื่นอย่างมหาศาล
ซึ่งเรื่องราวทั้งหมดนี้เอง
ก็ได้ทำให้เขาไม่ได้เพียงถูกจดจำแค่ว่าครั้งหนึ่งเคยเป็นบุคคลที่รวยที่สุดในประเทศ
แต่เขายังถูกจดจำในฐานะ มหาเศรษฐีผู้ใจบุญ
ที่ชื่อของเขายังคงถูกพูดถึง ไม่ว่าเวลาจะผ่านไปนานเท่าไรก็ตาม..
