I've watched Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice alone. Yes, alone. Reason being I've read reviews online that it is pretty violent and dark so I wanted to see it for myself before deciding if I should bring the boys.
And my verdict? I hate to say it, but this movie that may not be appropriate for the whole family. This is NO Marvel movie; there is little humour and even less colourful characters. At 2.5 hours long, the real action doesn't kick in until towards the halfway mark and getting to it is tedious and awkward.
And once the action begins... well, it is both brutal and spectacular. This Batman kills. But the irony of it all is the best part of the movie does not belong to the 2 title characters. Instead, Wonder Woman stole the show and the way she made her entrance and fought (together with the perfectly paced music) was the highlight for me.
So is it suitable for kids? I would say it is only appropriate for kids aged 9 and older. There are scenes that look straight out from a horror movie and I don't think younger kids will appreciate that. That, and a scene between Clark and Lois which had her naked in a bathtub while having a long conversation. It's rated PG-13 after all.
Personally, I felt underwhelmed... probably due to my high expectations since these 2 superheroes were my first comic reads when I was in Secondary School. The movie tried to cover so much that everything was left too fleeting. There was so much to love, yet there was a lot to not like.
